Hello Everyone,
I am pleased to announce that I have been selected as a delegate from Bangladesh in the world's largest climate event for youths. The Conference of youth represents the most significant youth conference as endorsed by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the presidency of the Conference of Parties (COP27), where young people around the world are actively engaged in the effort to address climate change, leading and participating in a multitude of initiatives at the local, sub-national, national, and international levels.
Despite producing only 0.56% of the global emissions changing our climate, Bangladesh ranks 7th as most vulnerable to devastation, according to Germanwatch’s 2021 Global Climate Risk Index (CRI).
In the last two decades, we have lost worth $3.72 billion and witnessed 185 extreme weather events due to climate change.
The recent climate disasters in Sylhet show how vulnerable the country is. Millions of people are becoming climate migrants and living in poor health conditions in city slums.
The above picture is from my house in Sylhet during the recent flood in Sylhet. It has been estimated that by 2050, one in every seven people in Bangladesh will be displaced by climate change. Due to a number of hydro-geological and socio-economic factors we are facing the flood, cyclone and monsoon. My country is one of the highly risky country due to climate change.
I was born in Sylhet and due to the historic flood in this region, my family had to leave home for shelter. In May 2022, Sylhet has been hit with one of the worst floods in years, with millions in Sylhet and Sunamganj became homeless. I want to represent my country as victims of climate change and will look for solution with dialogue as a delegate from Bangladesh.
