Encouraging a child seems more beneficial than not! Sad that people discourage but I think sometimes they do it an don't even realize it. I heard a parent once when presented a picture ask the child to explain their picture. I asked why they did that and they said that lessens the discouragement because we might see a cow but they drew a car. This way the child gets to tell you all about the picture without you having to guess what it is!
