So I did the a great video tutorial for the second time. it's the CG Fast track, Sword tutorial. I highly recommend this one if you are thinking about getting into Blender. I personally prefer this video to the famous Donut tutorial series. In the Sword, the guy teaches you how to model the sword, add textures and lighting, download characters from Mixamo, and finally animate the scene.
Here is a screen shot of my sword project. Unfortunately I wasn't able to post the full video clip here. Not sure if it was because it's too big or Hive doesn't like mp4. The archer character is one of many animated characters that you can download from Mixamo.
Here is a link if you'd like to check out the Sword video tutorial-
I think it's a good idea to take notes as there is a lot of information. It does take some work but I think it's super fun. Because this tutorial was so complex, I'll just briefly go over the animation process.
I'm very new to digital animation but I did make a 2D animation clip on Adobe animate. It works pretty much the same on Blender as it does for Animate. You have a time line with the amount of frames on it. For example you could have 120 frames and that equals about 5 seconds. In a nutshell, you move your camera and objects around in the Blender 3D space and then move the slider on the time frame. What you do next is insert a keyframe. Keyframes basically save the information regarding where items where at a certain point. If you have the camera in one spot and add a key frame, you have started a sort of sequence. You continue to move items to different positions and add another keyframe further down the time frame. Apologies if I'm not using the correct terminology for this.
Below is an example of me working with two different video clips for the project on Blender's video editing tab. Here I'm combing to shots into one clip.
In the bottom area, you have the two video clips in blue, the blue time/frame slider, and the amount of frames total on the top of the bar. The total number of frames for both clips is 240 frames. You can play the video from start to finish or move the time/frame slider around to different points of time. I believe this is called scrubbing.
If you're interested I'd recommend watching the 3rd part of the video to see the animation process. It's at the end of the tutorial and it's pretty short.
I'm really excited to start doing more detailed Blender animation. I'll defo do some more of their tutorials soon. I also enjoyed doing online tutoring. It's a great way to learn having a pro show you the ropes .
Hope you found this interesting! See you next time.
