You read that right!
I used scrap materials from work and little bits of time on my lunch breaks (when I wasn't on Steemit) to build a floating chair. In the photo above I was trying it for the first time on the pond behind work. It floated just fine with the doubled-up 2" thick high-density foam I used for pontoons. The frame is pressure-treated lumber, and the material that stretches over the frame to support me is steel mesh. The mesh is surprisingly comfortable and gives me peace of mind - (I don't want fish, snakes, or turtles coming up beneath me and trying to take a bite).
However, it needed some fine tweaking to operate more comfortably, and to be assured it will survive a river float trip in a couple of weeks. So after some minor adjustments and reinforcements to the frame, it awaits a 4-6 hour float trip downstream on Saturday, July 8th, assuming the current isn't dangerously swift by then, or on the contrary, the water level too low.
I will make a post about how well the raft works on the river once I safely return home!
Wow! Very nicely made floating chair.
Thank you :)
Redneck ingenuity right there! ✌🏾😄
Dang right! Thank you, @steemed-open!
Your post inspired my post today. I will tag you in it as you deserve the credit. 🙌🏽
Awesome, glad I gave you some inspiration! Thanks!
Looks just like something we would do here!! Great job!
Awesome! I'm glad there are other folks like me on Steemit! Followed.
I'm new to the site and that's what I'm looking for. Some country folk like me that enjoys the outdoors!
There aren't a ton of us country folks here on Steemit, yet. I expect that will change as more and more people sign up and start blogging. My redneck posts don't pay nearly as well as people's crypto trading and market analysis blogs, but I still have a lot of fun sharing the things we country folks do for entertainment. It's good to have you on board!
Incredible! And does it really float?
Yep, that's me sitting in the chair in the top photo in about 4 feet of (swampy) water.
Sorry, I did not pay attention. Then it's really cool!
Hahaha, great idea! Love it! I want one.
Oh my goodness, you would fit right in with my family from the country.... lol they are all rednecks and of course, so am I just doing it suburban style. I so love your creativity. Have fun on your rafting trip. take some pics to share.
Thank you so much! Renecks are my kind of people! (Down-to-earth, good-hearted, hard-working country folks, anyhow.) I certainly plan on taking photos on my floating trip! I hope I don't drop my phone in the river!
Oh please don't drop your phone or get it wet. We want to enjoy your trip. Funny story... I went to help my son the other day in his yard to lay down fabric for mulch. I was really getting into it, had it all under control, he says to me...mom your such a farmer! I looked at him after a moment and said, I think I will take that as a huge compliment. He is more of a suburban kid. lol Yet he always calls on mom, we know how to get things done us country bumpkins.
We sure do, don't we? I really hope to be in better financial shape soon so that I can work at my job less (I work 51 hours a week). I would love to get back to raising and preserving our own food like I did when I had more time.
I am sure you will reach your desired goals. There is nothing like raising and caring for your own food. My gardens are about to start bursting with produce.
Love it!
