My DNA Inspired Lamp Design

Hi Everybody !
One of my favorite things to design is lamps and lighting. I find it to be one of the most dynamic accessories for the home decoration as it often affects the whole interior and sets the mood.

The difference of good lighting, in my opinion is that it can make or break your interior design. For example, in the apartment I rent, the ceiling light in the living room is very similar to the strong white lights you would find in a hospital. In other words it is not cozy at all, and I rather have it turned off than on, and use other lights instead.

Anyways, in the beginning when I started to design lights I started off by investigating light itself, meaning the natural light we get from the sun.

So what is light? Well essentially it is energy, radiation, it is what makes life possible on earth. Life started with the help of the sun and it would also end without the energy we get from it. Each day starts with the sunrise and end by sunset, it is what controls our life rythm. In other words light is the key to our life, and that was my original point of inspiration for this lamp.

This got me thinking of DNA, which just like light is not something we think about on a daily basis, but without it we wouldn't exist. I decided that I wanted to extract a piece of the DNA Helix and input it into the lamp shade. I further decided that the lamp shade should not block the light, it should be the light. I would use acrylic plastic which would allow the led light to be transferred through it and illuminate from within the shade. The led light would be put around the ring at the top.
When the lamp is turned off you don't notice the carved in shape of the helix, but once you turn it on it becomes very obvious as the LED light would reflect on this surface and make it illuminate and thus come to life.
In order to catch the changes of light I further decided that the LED lamp should be RGB (red green blue) which allows it to change in to any possible color. For the light switch I thought it would be cool to integrate the old school switch were you pull the chain to turn it on . For this lamp one pull would start it, and then it would automatically change colors, if you would pull again you could stop the change and lock in the color you would like, depending on what mood you would want for the room.

I have been thinking for quite a while to create this lamp and try to sell it, but I haven't gotten there yet. I guess I haven't had the courage to really go for it. I would really love your input and suggestions !
