At first glance one can easily say "okay, the artists wrote Coca-Cola on a big tank." If one was to take a deeper dive one could say this piece deserves recognition because of the artists ability to take a preexisting object and redefine it to a point where the form takes on a new meaning. Perception, vision, and fore site are great tools to possess as an artist.
Many people probably walked past that tank and never imagined that it's surface could somehow be transformed. Could the artists have a problem with the tank sitting right in the middle of the lot or could they have simply saw a blank canvas and "went to town?" Their motive was actually political. Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad placed a ban on certain imports from some American companies, including Coca-Cola. This piece was their reaction to that action. Politically charged or not, I felt this piece is worth giving credit.
Perspective is everything. If an observer didn't know about Ahmadinejad's ban on Coca-Cola they could classify this as "pop art." The observer that is in the know may classify this as "political art." In those two cases I feel that neither person is wrong. There is a lot more that can be said about this piece so feel free to add on in the comments below.
