After being upset in the first test of the series Australia has had a lot at stake in this test match and with the 1st innings of both teams now complete it is shaping up as another cracking test match on the sub-continent.
After Bangladesh scored a solid 305, Australia has responded with a good score of 377 to give them a 72 run lead going into the crucial 2nd innings. It’ll come as no surprise to anyone to see spin bowling again dominate and you know you’re playing on a raging turner when Nathan Lyon picks up 7 wickets on the first day (and a bit).
Australia has struggled batting against spin for a long time now, but David Warner has been the man to step up and yesterday he ground out a quality 123 runs which has been crucial to Australias chances of levelling the series. It was his slowest century EVER, which for a typically aggressive fast scoring batsman is testament to how far he has come in being able to adapt his game to the conditions.
So the test match is poised here early on Day 4 with Australia set to bat last on a turning wicket. Bangladesh probably only need to score 220+ to make it a tough chase for the Aussies who have shown in recent times they are vulnerable to quality spin bowling in sub-continent conditions.
Again we will look to Warner and Smith to do the lions share of the run scoring, but it could become very interesting to watch if Bangladesh can get through the top 3 and put pressure on the Australian middle order because if they do we will be in for another cracking finish.
