100 Ball Cricket

Personally I think they are mad and this could back fire on them. I see it as going to be a big flop.
The English County Cricket Board or known as the ECCB are moving ahead with this type of format. There is a regional tournament that is going to start in July 2020 and will last 5 weeks. Most of the leading cricketers think it is utter madness and can't believe what is being proposed.

I just don't get it as why would anyone be interested in this. We already have a 20 over tournament which is a 120 balls so a match is 40 balls more than what has been proposed. I understand they are trying to get a game completed in two and a half hours by making some adjustments.

One over will consist of 10 balls now, but can be bowled by two different bowlers now. This is how they are going to speed the game up as after every change over you waste a couple of minutes. There will be 10 overs now instead of 20 so in theory the game should save an extra 10 minutes or so.

Someone needs their head reading after proposing this and the idiots thought it was a great idea. I think they are jealous of the IPL and want something of their own now. Can only see a lack of interest and a total failure. I love cricket and wouldn't be tempted to watch this.

I just think if you want to make changes then do it properly and make something unique and different. I would keep the same format of the 20 over cricket but would include the hitting zones for double the runs etc. Have targets in the stands for a bonus 50 runs or money prizes on offer. Imagine having a new football competition where for a limited time in the game there was no off sides. I think it would be great as goal scoring should be that much easier.

Andrew Strauss explained that they are trying to find a new audience with this format. More likely chase away the audience they already have which is short sighted on their greed in my opinion. The T20 is the short format and you can't reduce it anymore unless you have two innings of 10 overs a side with a first and second innings which would make it more interesting.

I can remember growing up and seeing cars on platforms around the stadium which were won if hit on the full by a batsmen. This would bring more interest to the game than a few silly changes that they are going to move forward with.

They say this format of 100 ball cricket is new and innovative, but I disagree. They have agreed to broadcast it live on terrestial television which I think should be the case anyway with most international sport.

Sort:

Waiting for the new format...

I wont be watching.

May be it will be good /bad. But should try I think. If bad then, No problem to avoid.Thank you.

This is what happens when you allow marketing people to run the show.

The T20 format is very popular in the UK. I'm going to Lord's on Thursday to watch Middlesex v Hampshire, weather permitting the place will be a sell out. England was the first country to really commit to T20 cricket but since then it's failed to build on that early success and watched every other cricket playing nation (and a few non-cricket playing nations) develop popular franchise leagues.

Realistically it's the ECB's failure to balance maintaining traditional values with modern thinking that has lead them down this path but then you could probably argue that that's a fundamental problem in this country full stop - just look at Brexit!

I can recall they had another format with hitting zones and bonus runs which would make it more interesting for the cricket fans. Changing the game too much as we know it now will move it in another direction and that is totally wrong. Can only see this as a shambles and confusing new fans they are trying to find. The way you get new fans is by playing a brand of cricket that wins matches. They see the IPL and want full stadiums for their domestic games and that is never going to happen. You can't compare England to India with it's fan base.

What exactly are they deriving at, people are not just contented with what they have. I totally agree with you

Madness and all about finding more fans. They will chase away the ones they have.

I dont like the new idea about this 100 ball cricket, even though i dont follow cricket that at least i can really tell whats good and not in this sports..i totally concur to your opinion man

They are stupid and will be wasting money and time.

Fundamental things should not be changed in any type of sports. I think people very much obsessed in doing something different but they have chosen the wrong one and I am very sure its not going to work.

Cricket is another sport I know nothing about. Must start learning 😜
