The following information is for individuals, tax authorities, immigration officials and prosecutors investigating the Pennsylvania branch of the Patel Family and their criminal enterprise operating under the name Devchand Hospitality INC.
The Patels are from a multi-generational organized crime family in India, with an ever-growing operation in the United States, including in and around the city of Harrisburg. As the decentralized national empire of this family grows, so does the brazenness of its frauds against customers and the government.
The current criminal activities of the Harrisburg Patel cartel are based out of the Chocolate Express Hotel and Suites in Hershey, and a residential address at 18 Windsor Way in Camp Hill.
Current investigations of the PA Patels include payment systems and COVID relief fraud, income tax evasion and labor violations. The primary suspects in these cases are Chandrakant M. Patel and Ushma C. Patel, with numerous family members assisting in their criminal activities.
The Patels' most frequent crime is payment systems fraud, in which they bill hotel guests without consent, utilizing legal loopholes and court/police/bank understaffing to avoid criminal or civil prosecution. They have done this for over 15 years with hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses estimated. Hotel guests typically report that the Patels overcharge debit/credit cards then refuse to reverse those charges, often responding with bullying tactics. Victims often have the charges temporarily removed by contacting their financial institutions, at which time the Patels respond to the financial institutions with easily forged receipts.
If you are a individual or business victimized by the Patels, or know someone who is, then please contact us at [email protected] so that we may connect and share information. As local authorities have said they do not have the resources to investigate, we need more victims to come forward in order to attract the attention of federal crime/tax/immigration authorities. Together we can shut down these growing "Patel Motel" criminal operations across the country!

People taking others' money by force is exactly like rape. I guess you could call it wallet rape. So sad that anyone would feel the have to do those kinds of things.

Here's some useful info shared by a victim online. I've pasted it below for others who wish to contact the correct local authorities:
Contact the Dauphine County State Police non-emergency dispatch, as the township is not served by Hershey and does not have its own police force. The state police were very helpful in providing a police report that I was able to submit to the bank to dispute the charges. The hotel is managed by a company calling itself Devchand Hospitality, INC, which is the legal entity of the same family managing the hotel. They have changed company names recently and will likely do so again, so look up current ownership info by searching for 183 Hershey Rd on the Dauphine County Tax Assessor's website(181 is part of the same parcel). To get a copy of your police report you'll need to contact the State Police Records Department, which their dispatcher can help you connect with.
