I do not want to sound preachy, but I will try to brief my reader about the latest scam in my country. What it is all about and why you should not fall for the trap.
Today, I got a notification on Google that a famous singer in India is under house arrest because she revealed sensitive information during a live interview that could disrupt the economy. I took time to read it before cross-checking if the news was real—mistake number 1.
The news was written so convincingly that I believed it. There were many 'giveaways' that screamed spam but I overlooked it. I trusted the website because it belonged to a reputed national newspaper. It turns out that even the news website was fake.
I then checked out the website that the blog referred to and shared it on IU discord - Mistake number 2. Thankfully, other members warned me of the scam and I realized my mistake. I have made mistakes in the past by trusting a fake email from so-called Amazon and losing my account for good. I hope such things never happen to me again or to others because one never knows which is true and which is fake. The trust has been broken completely and people are scared of being swindled.
Coming back to the present scams, celebrities are the target. Stories of some mishaps are written so convincingly by artificial intelligence that even the smartest ones would fall for it. Speaking of which, people and governments are fond of AI and such but has anyone ever given thought to the crypto industry? People use AI as if it were completely OK and shun crypto. You might argue that both are different but if only governments realize the value of crypto and how it can be utilized for the benefit of all. I am not saying that AI is bad. AI does help save time by finding the best result possible result within seconds and summarising it for the reader. AI has done and is still doing good in the field of research. AI can be useful and also misused as well.
When so many prominent celebrities are targeted, the commoners are easy prey. So, always double-check a website URL before revealing sensitive information. Check other news websites for any information. Never trust any website without checking.
If you believe you have given vital information to any website and think it might be a scam, react immediately and change information on all major websites like emails, banks, etc, This will keep you safe. Pass this information to whomever it might concern and save others from such spam as well.
Better safe than sorry. I came across a story of a young girl who got swindled. Never fall for such traps. She lost a lot of her money when trying to complete some online tasks. Also, some people lost their money when they were asked to pay for a service that they thought was free in the first place. Always try to read between the lines and stay safe.
If it is too good to be true, then it might just be 'NOT TRUE'🫣
