Why are sterilised needles used for death by lethal injection?

My real answer is: because the needles are all sterilized before they are in use (when you buy one or a box of needles) they all come in pakages, which means they must follow some type of regulation. Even here (Venezuela), where the Humanitary Crisis is hard, you find all and each needle in sterilized pakages.
