RE: Crowdsourcing Clarity, Ep. 12: Need a breakdown of D-Tube, YouTube starting to really suck.

I'm a big fan of the concept of Dtube. @heimindanger, its developer, seems to be working hard to create a real youtube replacement with a better potential reward system. It is linked to your Steemit account and like a post you make on Steemit you can get rewards by upvotes in the same way.

Go to https://dtube.video. Log in with your Steemit username and private posting key and click upload in the top right corner.

It is very early days for the platform and there are still important things still to happen to make it a contender.

Lagging video
Youtube has it's own servers and lots of bandwidth to make sure viewer see your videos when they want them. Dtube relies on IPFS (interplanetary file system) to host the files which is still a platform in it's own infancy. This makes for not the most reliable video platform, at the moment

Censorship
Youtube is a company and they can choose whether to host your files or not and whether to pay you rewards or not. This is based on their own corporate on political interests. Dtube is much more difficult to censor due to the way the files are stored.

Rewards
With Youtube you need to get many many views before you can receive rewards based on ad revenue. Dtube on the other hand is using the same reward pool as any Steemit post.

Search
Youtube, due to the fact it is part of Google taps into its world class search facilities. With Dtube at the moment the search facilities are very rudimentary.

As i said it is early days for Dtube, I can see it improving but like Youtube in it's early days there is still alot to be done. It is very much in Beta. You should give it a try but I would suggest not putting all of your eggs in the one basket.

Thanks, @ammonite. 10 SBD on the way!

Thank you so much. Glad to be of help. Check out Dsound also. A new decentralised audio platform also based on Steem. Just like dtube but for sound.
