A day at my work

It was jan 3, 2018. I am currently workig as a house officer (medical graduate) at bpkihs at dharan, Nepal. I was on night duty. It was around 11 pm, there was a rush of people at the emergency department with 2 patients. One, there was a 6 months old child and the other was his mother.
The child had a deep lacerated wound on the head as said by the people who brought them to the hospital. I was the one who attended the child. As I dig into the history how that happened, the relatives of the child sid that it was his own father who tried to kill the 6MONTHS old child using "KHUKURI" (a sharp weapon used in Nepal). The wound was dressed with bandage which was already soaked with fluids and some blood. So I had to take it out and check out the wound. As i opened the bandages, I saw that there was around 10 cm lacerated wound which was deep enought to cut though the skull and expose the brain tissue. Some of the brain tissues had already oozed outside. However, the child was very responsive. He had a good cry and his vitals were ok. But he was looking pale, may be due to blood loss.
I sought neurosurgical consult who advised that the patient needs surgery. Surgery was planned. Pediatric ICU was called to check for availability of the bed. But unfortunately no bed was available at that time. So I was forced to refer the patient to another hospital. I wanted to do more for him. But the circumstances did not let me. The condition did not let me.
Here is the picture of his injury image
After the patient went to another hospital I sat there thinking how could a man be so cruel. How could he try tokill his own baby that even 6 months old.
