First Impressions of Falmouth
Falmouth’s port area was mostly a shopping hub, offering plenty of souvenirs, local crafts, and food. While the shops were fun to browse, the real highlight for me before heading back to the ship was trying a Jamaican Patty—a flaky, spiced meat-filled pastry that was absolutely delicious. It was a great little taste of Jamaica before wrapping up our visit!
Heading into the Mountains
Our adventure started early in the morning as we set off on a long drive across the island to another port where our mountain excursion began. The journey itself was an eye-opener—it was interesting to see the island’s infrastructure, the narrow roads, and how the locals navigated through traffic. The drive took about an hour, but once we arrived, it was well worth it.
Bobsledding Like a Jamaican Olympian
Our first activity was a chairlift ride up to the top of the mountain, where we got an incredible view of the island. Once at the top, we experienced one of the coolest parts of the trip: riding a bobsled down the mountain! Inspired by the Jamaican bobsled team, which was made famous by the movie Cool Runnings, this ride was a fun and fast-paced way to enjoy the scenery while embracing a bit of local culture.
Ziplining Through the Jungle
After our bobsled adventure, we made our way halfway down the mountain via zip lines. Flying through the trees was an adrenaline rush, and it was a great way to experience the lush, tropical landscape of Jamaica.
A Taste of Jamaica
Before heading back, we stopped for lunch to try some authentic Jamaican cuisine. The highlight? Jerk chicken—one of the island’s most famous dishes. The smoky, spicy flavors were fantastic, and it was a great way to refuel after our morning of adventure.
Back to the Ship
Since we were an hour away from the port, we had to head back fairly quickly after lunch. It was another opportunity to take in the sights of the island, and I couldn’t help but notice how different Jamaica felt compared to the other islands we had visited. The mix of history, culture, and natural beauty made this stop stand out.
Once we got back to Falmouth, we did a bit of last-minute shopping before boarding the ship again, preparing for another day at sea ahead. Jamaica was definitely one of the most unique stops on our cruise, and while it was a fast-paced visit, it was filled with incredible adventures, great food, and lasting memories!
