Poloniex Makes Some Interesting Changes to Its Terms and Conditions

Whenever a cryptocurrency exchange changes its terms of service suddenly, there is plenty of reason for concern. This is especially true when that exchange is Poloniex, a platform seemingly plagued by problems, insolvency rumors, and DDoS attacks. According to its new terms, some interesting changes are now in effect. Those changes already have some users up in arms.

The change to Poloniex’s terms and conditions was unusual in its lack of warning. In most cases, companies will let users know which changes will be occurring a few days before they effectively take place. Poloniex did not follow this protocol, which made it seem as if these were quick changes forced upon them by external forces. Whether or not that was the case remains to be seen. Either way, a lot of people were not entirely happy with these changes.

Under its Eligibility banner, the company sought to further clarify that its users may not use the platform for illegal activity. Given the recent allegations regarding BTC-E and laundering of ransomware proceeds, ensuring legal coverage is of the utmost importance for all exchanges right now. Poloniex wanted to make sure no one used ransomware or other illegal methods to obtain Bitcoin and launder it through the platform. This should not worry too many users.

Poloniex wants to distance itself from its users when it comes to determining which laws and regulations apply to their specific trading behaviors. The company will not be helping users out with tax law, as they are not responsible for determining which laws may apply to individual users. Taxation of cryptocurrency is still a big issue, despite there being a few tools available to provide assistance.

Do you keep crypto on exchanges? If you don't hold it then it is not yours. From what happened to BTC-e was really devastating for people who hold the coins inside of this exchanger. Hoping no one here on Steemit has a lot of cryptos on this exchanges. What are your thoughts about this? Comment below what is the best thing to do with the thing like this...and how do we keep our coins safe as possible...

I guess we have to go back to downloading the wallets individually again, which is annoying but in the long run its worth it for safety. I'm totally fine with holding anything less than 100$ on a exchange, but anything more like 500-1000$ is not safe right now. Poloniex has so many issues right now its ridiculous.

it really has many issues, it's really frightening exchanges out there

Just it's difficult for people having little money there, to move them back and forth, but for over 1-2 k $, yes, they have to move it, to the safety of their house.

very well said, my friend... that is what exactly running to my mind

it's a shame. i used BTC-e for trading cryptos, not to launder them, and i kept a small amount on the trading platform, just to be able to respond quickly. perhaps a blockchain based trading platform can be a solution, one which can't be taken down by governments and who's owners are the cryptomining industry.

sorry to hear that, decentralized exchanger is the solution

nice advice, just be careful of cheetah

I don't mind him, just want to inform every one with this information

I havent been using cryptocurrencies long enough to use an exchange. Its seems pretty risk at time.

I would suggest a decentralized exchanger like open ledger bitshares... its decentralized exchanger and even it occurs some problem along the way you still keep your private key

Hey there, I'm working with a group to launch a website at the end of the month featuring community-based ICO and cryptocurrency analysis. If you're interested in more exposure for your work please feel free to reach out to me on steemit.chat. Thanks!

congrats bro :)

thanks, :) I remember your name

Now i'm wondering what exchange to use. Currently i use bittrex, but other than that, i'm not knowledgeable in much of the crypto world. Any advice you give your fellow steemian? I'm mostly on Steemit and not actively trading on any other crypto. Thanks in advance!

use a decentralized exchanger like bitshares created by Dan Larimer one of the founder of steemit. you hold your private key on these exchanger. bittrex has a good reputation to me but you will never know which will be the down side on the future

Downloading and studying it now. Thanks for the tip @hiroyamagishi.. I will update you once i get the hang of it... More power to you sir! :)

great to hear
