I read an article here on Steemit a couple of days back and also resteemed it. It was about the status of Bitcoin in India and the article says that Bitcoin in now officially legal in India which is not true and the article is kind of misleading.

So here is the truth. In April, The Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance formed an interdisciplinary committee, including members such as finance ministry officials, IT ministry officials, NITI Aayog, and Reserve Bank officials, to examine the framework surrounding cryptocurrencies like bitcoin. The committee is expected to share its findings in July and it's not "JULY" yet .After that , Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) may be asked to step in to regulate transactions(which also regulate the stock markets in India).
So no, Bitcoin is currently not legal in India officially, but it's not illegal at the same time. And the scenario looks quite positive right now and it looks like government might legalize bitcoin soon, maybe next month.
I believe that one has to do some proper research before writing an article . You can also see the article has got a lot of upvote and became quite popular. So you can say a lot of people got their info wrong. We don't want Steemit to become like a lot of traditional media , spreading rumour , publishing their half baked facts with poor research, be it knowingly or unknowingly.
Cool post. Glad you wanted to find the truth and post about it.
Thanks
