To mine BURST you have to use the wallet integrated or custom plotter software to write lots of 256kb nodes on HDDs. When done you mine with these plotts in a nutshell.
You need quite a lot nowadays for difficulty right now ist about 500k TB. A block occurs somewhat between 10 and 40 minutes. When that occurs all your prior plotted nodes are read and hopefully you find the block. That results in much less power consumption because you don't do constant hashing. A big pro. Con is, for example, plotting 5TB takes about a week (There are faster gpu plotting programs available nowadays). But when you're through that process you hardly need any cpu anymore because just reading the data doesn't need much calculating which again results in much less electricity needed for mining. Another con is you will never have space for data anywhere cause all aquired hdd will end up in the miner...full of plotts...and the networksize = difficulty is rising very quickly. But the energy efficiency for the actual mining process made mining somehow profitable for me for the last 2 years, even in Germany where electricity price is about fuckin' 32 cents.
