While sources differ on the number of millionaires in the world, Credit Suisse estimates the number at about 35 million. This figure accounts for all “financial and nonfinancial wealth,” including assets, collectibles, and homes.
This is a remarkable number when compared to the total number of Bitcoins that will ever exist. While there are roughly 35 million millionaires in the world, there will only ever be a maximum of 21 million Bitcoins. That’s right--there will never be enough Bitcoins in existence for every millionaire in the world to own even a single one.
While you let that thought sink in, let’s consider what gives Bitcoin its value. Granted that there are numerous features we could cite, including a global network, an immutable Blockchain and a means to transfer wealth from one person to another without ever involving a middleman.
These are all fine features, to be sure. But what really makes Bitcoin valuable are two properties: scarcity and authenticity.

There's certainly a lot of speculation on what the "price" will reach in the near and long-term!
I don't have a guess, except that someone I know and consider an "expert" in field strongly believes it will reach $50,000 USD equivalent.
I'm in accumulation mode and hoping like heck he is right. :)
That said, I like your number better. LOL.

50.000 would already be very nice!
But whatever happens with BitCoin I really don't care. To me it is Steem that should, can and will grow big. How big indeed we have to see. But a $4 Steem price makes me much happier than a 50k BitCoin price.
You must own a lot of Steem!
I'm hoping for big things out of Steem also, don't get me wrong. :)
What will it take for Steem to grow big? Right now there seems to be quite a lot of issues facing the platform, issues such as spam, difficulties for great content to reach its intended audience, strategic voting, and so on.
Will these sorts of issues resolve themselves, or do we need some fundamental changes to the platform, such as moderators?
I own 1000 Steem. That is 100% of my financial assets and I live 100% from that to pay my bills.

Go bitcoin go!
Good article
I find these numbers very outlandish although I am not saying this cannot happen. But what it does is creating a huge expectation on BitCoin alone while the technology is already more or less the worst in the industry. Who knows if other coins will take over because they are more versatile or easier to use. If Steem for example takes off and we will be able to pay with Steem directly in a shop, then I could totally see Steem taking over for being the industry leader on speed and free transactions. It is just so much better to use. Other altcoins might have a similar potential but Steem is easier to earn and access. So who knows what will happen but I would be very careful to put all my horses just on Bitcoin.
