I've never used cloud storage for this reason. I've been on the web since the days just before Yahoo! was born, so it was obvious to me what direction this was headed. I remember Eudora free email with PGP encryption. Phil Zimmerman created PGP then suddenly it was gone from Eudora. I then refused to update windows for several years. Eventually Eudora wouldn't run anymore. The rulers of the world don't believe anyone should have privacy.
There's a new internet being born now based on such technologies as Blockstack and Substratum that have decentralized cloud storage. If they succeed, maybe someday I'll trust the cloud, but until then, I'm still using a 6 HD cycled backup schedule.
