We are constantly bombarded with news about cryptocurrencies (also abbreviated as crypto), how about this cryptocurrency is the best, or what about that other brand new cryptocurrency that was recently created. However, here, I will cover the top five cryptos as reported by Coin Market Cap at the time of this writing. These top cryptos are not only among the best known ones, they are also the ones backed by strong projects, monetary volume, and communities. Without further ado, here we go.
1. Bitcoin
Bitcoin (BTC) is the original cryptocurrency. Initially designed and developed by Satoshi Nakamoto around year 2009, Bitcoin has become the best known cryptocurrency for more than a decade now. Bitcoin can be stored, received, and sent by wallet software such as Electrum and Coinomi, among many others.
2. Ethereum
Ethereum first appear back in year 2015 and it was created and developed by Vitalik Buterin. It introduced the notion of tokens, custom cryptocurrencies that piggyback onto the main Ethereum blockchain. It also first introduced the concept of smart contracts and dApps (decentralized apps). Probably the best way to use Ethereum is via the MetaMask wallet, as it can receive and send Ethereum, as well as interact with tokens and smart contracts.
3. Tether
Tether is the first stablecoin to exist, and through various mechanism, it keeps price parity with the USA dollar. Therefore, for the most part, one tether will equal one dollar. The point of this is to be able to keep a coin with a safe price while trading on the various crypto platforms online, without all the hassle of constantly cashing out and depositing in traditional dollars. Tether exists as a token in Ethereum and in various other blockchains such as Tron.
4. BNB
BNB is the main cryptocurrency of Binance, and throughout the years it has also become the main crypto of the Binance Smart Chain, which can also run smart contracts and operate tokens, via the Metamask wallet.
5. Solana
Solana seeks to become a fully sized cryptocurrency ecosystem, aimed at bringing crypto into our daily life and become mainstream. Solana can operate tokens, smart contracts and dapps, at a lower cost than some of the other chains mentioned above. You can use Trust Wallet to operate with Solana.
