I don't believe there is only bitcoin, Ethereum is its own beast, XRP as much as I hate it is a totally unique beast as well and a few other coins have some of their own market. However yes bitcoin is the core of it all and is why it dominates over 50% of the market. If bitcoin went to 0 though I believe Ethereum and some others would still have some type of value.
