Rabobank is a Dutch bank with over 50,000 employees all over the world. It is also a bank which aims to create a mixed wallet: one with fiat and one with crypto. The wallet is called Rabobit and you can see (a little bit) more info here.
In and by itself, this is major news, because we're still living in a context where a significant part of traditional banks are blocking access to crypto businesses. Seeing a bank trying to integrate crypto directly into their online banking interface is something nice.
But wait, there's more.
If you try to sign up for updates (like I said, the wallet is not yet done, it's just an intention for now) you will be greeted with a form in which you can choose your bank.
I found this a bit odd, but then I realized that Rabobank (and any fintech player, for what matters) may create now a proxy interface for other banks, since the PSD2 European Directive is now enforced. If you don't know what PSD2 does, well, it opens the European banks APIs to trusted third party players. In other words, entrepreneurs can now use the APIs of any European Bank to develop whatever financial product they want.
I think Rabobit may be one of the first use cases for PSD2, a use case in which you may have a unified wallet for multiple banks and for crypto.
I still don't know for sure if they're doing that, but if they would, I think this could be very interesting.

The central banks would always feel threatened by cryptocurency market. Truly in life whatever is doing well without any form of centralised checking system would always be a threat to centralise controlled systems which would always seek to control that system. (story of central banks and crypto)
At this moment I don't believe rabobank sees crypto as a threat. Recent market research shows that around 1% of Dutch people has bitcoin. I forgot the average amount they hold, but it's probably peanuts compared to fiat.
And it might take years before we can get a crypto mortgage 😁. And that's one of the main things how they earn their money.

What I find really interesting if rabobank will also guarantee the number of Crypto coins you have? Similar to the guarantee of fiat money there is right now.
Nope, not Dutch, I'm Romanian. I'm not sure about the guarantee, though...
Me neither, because of the technical risks. But what is the advantage for us to stall our crypto coins in a wallet from a bank if it doesn't have any extra?
Good thing is that all 3 Dutch banks have fintech. And it looks like Rabo is not against crypto 😀

I am Dutch and use Rabobank for my ordinary banking. They are a serious and large bank, which is often more innovative than the more conservative competition.

What the banks feel most threatened about has to be the level of availability, liquidity and assesibility of cryptocurrency. Man has since taken advantage of these and taken them to greater heights by the day. Today it is Rabobank surely there'll be something more interesting tomorrow. I am a great daythis is good news for the world of cryptography dear friend @dragosroua, that banks are in the process of amalgamating bank accounts with those of cryptocurrencies is a good sign. It means that they are enjoying something very positive in them and a great business, the banking entities do not take a step if there is not a juicy profit behind it.
That looks promising! I look forward to the day when I'll be using one interface to do banking no matter where the accounts are (at which bank) and also integrated with the crypto wallets!
