Ripple explains that XRP tokens definitely is not a security.
About a week ago, the issue arose whether ripple is a security within the meaning of the US Securities and Exchange Commission. This would have far-reaching consequences as cryptographic exchanges offering XRP for trading would then require a SEC license. Now the marketing boss of Ripple has commented and made it clear that Ripple is definitely not a security.
The topic is so interesting because the legal situation in the US is still unclear whether and what crypto currencies are classified as "security", ie as a security of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
As a result, cryptographic exchanges offering securities would need to register with the SEC and enforce more stringent requirements. For Ripple, this would mean that it would be much harder to be listed on crypto currency exchanges (eg Coinbase or Gemini) in order to gain wider access to the investor market.
A few weeks ago, the SEC warned to list cryptocurrencies that could be considered securities. The US Securities and Exchange Commission has issued numerous subpoenas and requests for information for ICO operators in recent months.
Cory Johnson, head of Ripple's marketing department, said in an interview with CNBC that the XRP token is not a security.
Coinbase has never raised the question of whether XRP is a security in our discussions of XRP listing. We are 100 percent clear that it is not security. We do not meet the standards.
CNBC also reports that a Coinbase spokesman has confirmed this statement and that the stock market has never discussed possible regulation with ripple. The talks were all about fulfilling the publicly available criteria for adding new cryptocurrencies to Coinbase.
The rate of Ripple shot up yesterday after announcement of the Santander app, which relies on xCurrent, briefly strong. Within the last 24 hours, Ripple recorded a slight price increase of just under 2 percent.
The price for an XRP token is 0.53 euros and a corresponding market capitalization of 20.52 billion euros. This night the roller coaster ride of the crypt world continued, whereby the current state shows a slightly positive trend. The next days will show where the journey is going.
