The most downloaded fitness app in the country is paying it's users in cryptocurrency...
Sweatcoin is similar to most GPS based fitness apps that count the users daily steps, except with their app, for every 1,000 steps taken, the user is rewarded with 0.95 Sweatcoin.
The app can be downloaded for free on both IOS and Android Play.
At this time the coin is not listed on CoinMarketCap, or available on any exchanges, but this is expected to change in the near future. There is however a Sweatcoin marketplace inside the app, where users can purchase fitness items and gift cards with the coins they've earned. So far, the company has received $5.7 million in funding and is currently working to move into new markets outside the United States and the UK.
I typically use Strava or other closely related apps when I walk or run, but I'm going to try out Sweatcoin for a few weeks and see how it goes. Earning coins for walking seems like a cool idea and If nothing else, this is yet another example of crypto's gaining traction and becoming more mainstream.
