Today I'm excited to announce a secret project that a few of us at Multicoin have been working on for a while:
Aurora EOS
Official post here - https://multicoin.capital/2018/09/18/announcing-aurora-eos/
@myles_snider , one of our first employees, is spinning out of Multicoin to be CEO of Aurora, which is an independent company
Tushar and I will serve as advisors, and we are excited to support Myles in his new endeavor
Why are we doing this?
Because the role of crypto investor is evolving. Successful Investors will need to be active ecosystem participants who can help shape the direction of the networks they're invested in
EOS is far and away the largest blockchain - in terms of usage, market cap, liquidity, and others - and requires the most active and engaged governance, and technical infrastructure
Given the above, we realized that participating in this ecosystem in a meaningful capacity would be beyond the scope of an investment firm, and warranted a dedicated and independent team
This also has the benefit of allowing Tushar and myself to focus on managing capital
We expect to learn a tremendous amount from our experiences in the EOS ecosystem, and will use thar gained wisdom as we participate more actively in other ecosystems
As part of this announcement, we have also publicly listed our criteria for voting in EOS in the interest of transparency and disclosures
If you'd like to learn more, please ping @myles_snider
And lastly, make sure to visit http://auroraeos.com and subscribe to Aurora's newsletter for the most comprehensive overview of the EOS ecosystem!

Stablecoins...
The dream of the bear market.
Yea they did this in 2014 and prior too.
Except back then they were also called pegs or pegged assets because they're pegged to a non crypto asset or currency.
Stablecoin is a misnomer, because nothing is stable in value.
Do you know what happened to those prior pegs?
For the most part, they've been knocked off their peg.
People promote them as usable due to stability - no Pizzagate happening with a peg.
Promoters of stablecoins love to say things like stablecoins will save crypto because they're for use not speculation.
Those that haven't completely died aren't used as currency.
They're used to accumulate crypto on exchanges without fiat pairs.
No one is out here stocking up USDT (f/k/a RealCoin) to go buy things.
I see soo many newer people talking about stable coins.
No, preaching about stable coins doesn't give you "here for the tech" cred.
It says "I'm scared by the bear market".
If you're a fan or considering stablecoins, think about why you find them appealing. Think about what their potential use is and if there's already something doing it.
Yes volatility is harsh. Yes it can be nerve wracking to survive your first bull market. But stablecoins aren't crypto's "savior".
They're a tool for further regulation and manipulation of the space.
Instead of looking to stable coins, look to the future of crypto. As adoption increases, stability will increase, manipulation will reduce, and the same things that cause huge moves right now, won't.
My favorite way to describe this is with bodies of water. When a rock is thrown into a puddle, the water splashes and it's a huge move relative to the puddle. But the same rock in a pond, or a lake, it would cause ripples, but they'd be much smaller relative to the pond. $10B displaced in a $200B market is a puddle. $10B in a $10T market is much smaller.
Stability comes with adoption. Seek adoption, not coins manipulated for stability just like fiat.
Cyrus Beheler
Tether is a definite game changer for crypto traders. It’s a stable coin that gives people a slight advantage over the market. If tether would also benefit the value of BTC in some way when people use it I think a good thing could get better. I think a BTC hodl wallet used as part of the assets for backing tether would be a useful addition to the USD. Maybe use a small portion of each transaction that goes directly to a untouched account. Over time the amount would get bigger stabilizing and supporting BTC. Maybe I have a blatant flaw in this idea but the goal is having a stable coin like tether that helps BTC value go up in some way.
Trent Mackness
Stable coins aren’t designed to make bitcoin go up. They are designed to transfer digital assets away from volatile conditions. Traders can sell btc at highs into a stable coin then leave it there until they are ready to start buying at the bottom (basic terms here) if anything stable coins probably add volatility to btc etc.
Cyrus Beheler
Trent Mackness that’s my point. Design a stable coin that does help btc. It’d be cool to know that every time you had to tether part of the money went to help BTC value go up.

Disclaimer: this is not a buy-alert and DYOR ... this is about understanding the value prop and the subsequent potential behind the things you bet your money on. All we want to do here is stimulate your thinking, so you can apply what you learn in whatever way works best for you.
Since Digibyte (DGB) is already declassified, I wanted to reiterate why it's one of my largest alt positions.
But let me digress first. If you were on the webinar last night, you may remember a few comments I made about having an investment thesis. I love bear markets because I don't have to watch the market as much ... I use Q1 and Q2 to study comments and really think about not only what the future of crypto/blockchain will look like, but also where I want to place bets. A few things I always consider are:
- Team
- Company v. Project
- Why Blockchain?
- Tokenomics (i.e. Beyond Supply and Price)
- Potential for Parabolic Moves
- Regulatory Opportunities v. Threats
Another thing I'm known for is accumulating plays that aren't being heavily marketed, but that have real tech, teams and advantages behind them. I love accumulating while no one is looking (e.g. OmiseGo).
For me, Digibyte is a no-brainer. First, I'll put it in writing ... it is NOT a security and I can count on one hand the relevant cryptocurrencies in the market that can claim this (HINT: no ICO). If Coinbase wanted a clear lane to add a top-50 coin and not worry about the SEC, DGB is it. That said, I don't think Coinbase is in any hurry to add anything in the current regulatory environment. Binance, of course, is another option but Digibyte isn't paying listing fees ... eventually Binance will stop feuding with Jared, though, because volume and profit is ultimately what matters most. So let's talk about that for a second ...
Digibyte is a better bitcoin, period. Now don't get excited ... Digibyte is not going to replace bitcoin, but people should take notice of DGB's capabilities. And that's not even what excites me the most. What excites me is Digibyte is quietly dominating an industry it's basically created:
Blockchain-enabled-Online-Security-As-A-Service (i.e. don't Google it, I just made it up).
Digi-ID is a big freakin' idea and no one is really paying attention, much less talking about it. Thank God! I'm loving the price right now. Anyhoo, don't say you didn't know once everyone wakes up to what Digibyte actually is and FOMO takes hold. He may be nuts and his picks were unwanted noise, but d you think it is a coincidence that McAfee loves DGB? It's not.
PS: Triple bottom? Hmmm

I was talking with Joe last night and I realized we are 9 months into the bear market. 9 months.
On crypto twitter, there are a lot of new crypto babies lately, so we know how people celebrated the all time high.
The projects that were aiming for Fall 2018 for goals on their roadmap, it seemed so far away, but we're 2 days from the official start of Fall now.
When the bear market started in 2014, It was about 18 months before a bull market resumed, though the final 8 months or so before reversal was just going sideways.
Once there was a positive trend, it took about 6 months to reach it's former highs.
18 months. We could be in for that again. We could see the bulls sooner, this post isn't about predictions.
This post is about time. The time passes anyway. so cliche. But as often occurs, this cliche is true.
9 months have passed in a blur. And looking back on the 2014 bear market, I remember a period of growth.
Obviously not in price, but in the maturity of the people and projects in the space.
Some say it's a test by fire. Others say you aren't experienced until you deal with a bear market.
Strategies that worked in the bull market, may not work in the bear market. Temporal edges become apparent (though tbh they should've in backtesting).
One day at a time we set ourselves up for a better future. We set ourselves up for success. It sounds overwhelming, like drudgery but the time will pass anyway.
I started 2017 having earned over 90% of my portfolio trading during the extended bear market.
Trading for more sats, trading shitcoins, trading usd like a shitcoin, just accumulating.
I didn't just sit and trade my existing skills for those 18 months. I spent them learning, honing my skills, building a bot, bettering myself along with my portfolio.
People laughed at me. Bitcoin was dead. Bitcoin never even touched my initial buy-in again, but somehow, it was "dead".
Whether this bear market lasts another month or another 9, what you choose to do will set you up for how you'll do during the next bull market.
The time will pass anyway, so even if it's drudgery. Even if all you can do is earn $5/day in faucets while learning more, even if you spend the time learning about the tech, let the bear market build a better you.

Wall Street And Crypto: A Brief Overview
Despite The Market Correction, Institutions Are Interested
Despite 2018’s market tumble, Wall Street institutions are still showing interest in offering crypto-related products, services, and solutions that are aimed at retail and corporate clients alike. As pointed out by the most recent issue from Diar, a fintech-focused publication that provides in-depth analysis of the cryptocurrency and blockchain markets, the foremost American banks have overtly shown interest in crypto assets.
Excluding Wells Fargo, the 5 largest US banks have all indicated now their interest in servicing client requests for trading Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. But since many of these firms operate behind closed doors, for now, us crypto investors will have to sit on our hands and hope for the best
To your best interest invest what you can the future gonna be a bullish one , invest now and secure a meaningful future.

Can someone explain to me why anyone would enter into a CDP? (Not a shitpost, just trying to understand the system)
by freshLikeGD
Hi all, so I've very recently learned about MakerDAO and the DAI stable coin and I'm trying to wrap my head around the value CDPs provide. Forgive me if this is a "noob" question, but I would really appreciate some help understanding the concept.
If I understand correctly a CDP is a way to borrow DAI by collateralizing another asset (let's use ETH for this example).
So I lock up $1000 (usd) worth of ETH, and in exchange I'm able to borrow 500 DAI. Then I repay the loan back at some point with some interest (say 505 DAI) and I get my ETH back.
I guess my question is... why would someone do this? If they wanted 500 DAI and had $1000 worth of ETH to begin with, why not just buy 500 dollars worth of DAI directly on an exchange with $500 worth of ETH.
I also don't get why they are paying interest on the loan when they have had 200% of the value of the loan locked up during that time (they have lost the ability to use those assets in some way which also seems like an additional opportunity cost).
I'm sure I'm just missing something here, and would really appreciate someone explaining what exactly the value of the loan is (or could be). Thanks very much for any replies!

We should have a stable coin that peg to ETH.
by lolisakirisame
Don't laugh, I am serious.
With multi cdp, we should implement it - the collateral is dai, and we can take out dai-ETH, which should maintain a 1-1 peg to ETH.
... Why? One can take dai-ETH cdp, sell it on decentralized exchange for more dai. This is effectively shorting ETH.
We already have decentralized margin long, this will get us decentralized shorting!
A cleaner approach is to just do reverse-cdp in general, allowing ppl to collaterize dai and take some collaterized ETH. This will make the whole system 1 less peg to maintain, and we can even automatically do reverse-cdp for every existence cdp, so shorting for every pair!
Note: I understand that ppl hate shorting, but if we do it we will only encourage ppl from big exchange to move to us, so price will be less manipulated, which is a good thing.

RAM questions.
by robotspacetime
Let's say I bought enough RAM to handle uploading an HD photo to the chain. Once the block is created is my photo permanently stored? Do I get to keep the RAM and do it again? Or does it somehow use up the RAM like ROM?
fcecin
I think all the RAM you own (i.e. that was created by an account that you control, for example, the same account that owns the RAM) is fully controlled by you. You can delete it any time you want.
If you want an "immutable photo" to be stored in account/contract memory ("RAM"), you need to set the owner and active keys of the account to zero or to "eosio.code," which makes the account/contract "immutable" and probably all the RAM the account controls. Then if you want to delete the photo later you need to start a public BP/ECAF process.

Just to confirm, is there any benefit to have more than 1000 Dash in the master node?
by luckydog2018
I want to make sure I read the documentation correct.
My understanding is that there is no benefit to have more than 1000 dash in the master node since the payout is based on the master node, not based on how many dashes you have in the node.
Is that right?

Using PrivateSend has created $250+ of un-spendable "change" for me over the last year. Is there a planned fix for this? Thanks.
by Netizen_Cookie
In either scenario, PrivateSend is quite costly to use:
- If I click the "PrivateSend" checkbox, my Core wallet will round up to the nearest 0.01 Dash. This can currently cost as much as $2/tx, and formerly cost as much as $16/tx (when Dash was $1600).
OR
- If I select inputs manually (a pain in the rear, but at least my transaction amount doesn't get "rounded up"), then I am left with change as high as 0.009 Dash. Almost $2. Because the change is less than 0.01, my wallet won't PrivateSend mix it anymore, and now I can't spend it without compromising my privacy.
Are there any planned fixes for this?

Identification and Privacy with Blockchain
genEOS Official
While blockchain can be used to improve logistical efficiency by identifying physical objects (such as international cargo ships) in supply chains, individual identity verification is equally important, with the fraud detection and prevention market estimated to be worth 41.59 billion USD by 2022.
And in an era of fake news and Twitter bots, verifying user identities is fundamental to maintaining a brand’s integrity. After Twitter deleted tens of millions of fake accounts, their stock price plunged over 20%. Not truly knowing the identity of their users significantly hurt the core of their business.

Using APM to replace NPM and other centralized package managers
Aragon One Blog
APM stands for Aragon Package Manager. You can read more about it if you don't know what it is. The summary is that APM is a decentralized package manager. APM handles the upgreadability of smart contracts as well as arbitrary data blobs.
[...]
APM's architecture is much more advanced, and enables:
Decentralized storage: Packages' data can be stored in platforms like IPFS or Swarm. They offer integrity and easy redundancy by default
Rich governance over package upgrades: You could include governance processes like democracy, liquid democracy and even futarchy as part of the approval process for an upgrade
On-chain incentivization: You can create cryptoeconomics systems that reward those who help, and disincentivize attackers
