UPDATE 2017-12-12: After attempting the 2FA trick twice I had another individual from the support helping me to manually verify my account. So, if it fails the first time, just open another ticket as explained below. Be patient. Join the following Telegram group if you have questions regarding the 2FA trick: https://t.co/9XZpuldx4p
Some months ago @Bittrex asked its users to either provide them with a real name and address to get the status of "BASIC" or to send in passport/ID information to get an "Enhanced" status. I was approved for a Basic account and continued to merrily trade on. The other day when I wanted to withdraw some profits, I got a red message saying that I had reached my withdrawal limit. When I checked the settings and the verification menu, I was having a minor panic attack.
"We could not match your information to our public record providers. To complete the verification process, you must apply for an enhanced account."
I contacted the support and provided them with a fresh set of selfie, passport, IP number and recent transactions. They answered after 48+ hours and said that they could deactivate my 2FA but weren't trained to verify my account. The ticket was now marked as solved.
Here's a detailed explanation of the 2FA trick:
If you've already created a support ticket, don't delete it. Instead click on "Submit A Request".
Please choose your issue below - "Two-Factor (2FA)"
Subject - "Remove 2FA"
Description - "Please, remove 2FA and verify my account"
Two-Factor (2FA) Issue - "2FA Removal"
Bot ask you to answer four questions
1) Your IP
2) At least one TxID from deposit / withdrawal history
3) Your current balances
4) Scans of your documents and fresh selfie with sheet of paper "Bittrex / Date"
Now your task is to wait for a response from the support (from 1 to 48 hours at the moment)
When admin answer you he can to remove 2FA but not answer on verification issue. In this case you need add a comment with your ask for enhanced verification because the necessary files you have already attached! If he not response and just close your ticket for comments then try 2FA trick again and again! Be persistent, write only politely and you will succeed!"
Yes, it was stupid of me to hold currencies to a value of over $25000 on an exchange and an expensive lesson learned. Probably not worth the heart palpitations and anxiety I go through now though.
Thousands of people are in the same boat as I, and many Bittrex users haven't heard back from the support in over 2 months.
If anyone still have problems with verification, let me know. I know a few more tricks.
Thanks for info. I have some small amount of EDG there guess its considered gone. Best regards from Göteborg
Be careful with Poloniex also. The decentralized exchange OpenLedger will be it for me from now on. I also have hopes in NVO that will be out next year.
I guess thankfully now after hearing your experience, tried to open an account with Bittrex and had a similar dismal experience trying to use their "support".
Only got a few automated responses advising to repeat the same steps which I had already performed for an enhanced acct, then chastised for trying to duplicate the account by sending the same redundant message to repeat the steps, then was advised to wait for a response to resolve the issues.
I am also now in the 2 months + stage of waiting for a response.
Luckily this was before I deposited currency.
I won't use them, especially after hearing your story as well.
Thanks for posting!
Glad to hear you didn't deposit anything.
thank you for sharing this disadvantage, it may avoid me problems in the future
Welp, my few hundred bucks on bittrex have become 4-digit by now. I really need to get a hard wallet, thanks for the warning.
Back when I had to mail in my ID and stuff I had a similar frozen account problem, but this "we freeze until you do what we say" seems to be common practice. Skrill also froze 100€ of mine a few years back.
Yes, move everything to wallets where you control the key
damn yo thats messed up.
:/
Well I guess this explains my difficulties in attempting to register with them. I've been using Coinbase in the meantime.
Also check out OpenLedger, it's completely decentralized and they won't bow down to demands from authorities.
Thank you! I will for sure :)
