mass-media is strong, people are mostly stupid and overloaded with information, so they will never check the crap they hear from TV.
Blockchain is not the easiest thing to understand (you know what I'm talking about if you ever tried to explain to someone, how the blockchain works =) )
Everything new is scary for people (we are still animals with primitive instincts with that) and the word "speculation" itself sounds like "creating money out of nothing" so, that's how I think the current situation can be explained =)
