I don't think the SEC will approve a Bitcoin spot ETF before the US presidential election

in #cryptolast year

On Friday, the SEC delayed it's decision on ArkInvest's Bitcoin spot ETF.

The next deadlines for the other ETFs are in September. Here is the table for the ETFs awaiting a decision:

Given that the Biden administration is hostile to crypto (as evidenced by the decisions of SEC chair Gary Gensler), it would be a miracle if any of these ETFs get approved. The best people can hope for is that the decisions are delayed till after the election, rather than outright denied.

What happens after the election? If the Democrats lose, Gensler will resign and the highest ranking Republican in the SEC will become "acting Chairman" on inauguration day. Whether they become permanent depends on whether there are other candidates. Then there is the whole rigmarole of Senate confirmations.

That means that even if the govt changes hands, nothing will happen till late 2025 at the earliest.
