The Merkle- eBay Seller Scams Customers by Emptying Purchased Paper Wallets
Toffer Wayne's Comments
Are we really surprised that scammers exist on Ebay? Well here is another example of the scammer entrepreneurial spirit ... there are retailers on Ebay that are selling paper wallets - the problem is that they have access to the Private Keys !!!
Paper wallets have always been considered to be a great solution for offline cryptocurrency storage. They are convenient and can be prepared in a few minutes. For some reason, people are still actively selling – and buying – pre-generated paper wallets on platforms such as eBay. It is evident this is a disaster waiting to happen.
As one would expect, the paper wallets purchased from this eBay seller were cleaned out not that long ago. It is possible some of his customers had their details compromised, but the most plausible explanation is that this eBay seller scammed buyers himself. It seems that close to 8 BTC has been stolen from various wallets already.
Some big players in the Crypto space like @CryptoBobby have hammered home the point to always use offline storage like paper wallets, and hardware wallets like Trezor ... but what is clear is that for the uneducated or more fairly non-technically savvy there are still huge financial risks even with these "safe" storage options.
Beware of scammers please
