IONChain: Blockchain backbone for IoT

Introduction

The saying has always being that “the best place you can ever be, is the place of your imagination”. Of a truth, the saying above is true. We have at one point created a world of our own through our imaginations: That world where a robot is doing the cooking for you, where everything is automated. With the 21st century technology like the IoT all those are not mere imagination anymore. From driverless cars, to smart doors and any other remotely operated devices you can think of are all branches of Internet of things(IoT).

IoT network is a 21st century technology built on the component and efficiency of Internet and computer. IoT as fondly called is the acronym for “Internet of things”. It is the network that allows physical devices, home appliances, vehicles and other things to be equipped with sensors, micro chips, actuators, software and Internet connectivity avenue that allows these devices to connect with each other, collect and exchange data. These devices exchange information remotely via the Internet connectivity thereby extending the validity of Internet beyond just over the traditional smartphones, desktop et al.

Have you ever think of returning from work and walking through your smart door your air conditioner put itself on? you are set for work and by stepping out of your house, your car engine starts? with IoT everything is connected.

Despite the hype and praise, IoT is still far from perfection with most notably it deficiency when it comes to cross device compatibility and it centralized nature and this is where IONChain comes in.

Backed by the blockchain technology that allows it operate in a decentralized ecosystem, and the vision of “One Device, One Coin, One Code” makes IONChain the next big thing for the IoT network.

Internet of things (IoT)

Internet of things is a network that allows anything be it home appliances, just anything to be embedded with Internet ability. These devices are embedded with technology like sensors, actuators and softwares that gives them the ability of Internet connectivity which allows them to remotely connect, collect and exchange data. IoT highlight the usefulness of internet and computer beyond mere desktops, smartphones et al.

What is IONChain?

Founded in Singapore in early 2018, IONChain is a non-profit organization with major goal of addressing relevant issues like; data circulation, data sharing, data security and data transactions on the IoT network.

IONChain derives it name from the Arrhenius’s theory of ionization developed by Swedish physicist Arrhenius.

Some bottlenecks of IoT that IONChain will Resolve

• IoT as a centralized network that stores data on a centralized network where these data are vulnerable to hack and fraud, IONChain as a decentralized network stores data on the blockchain away from third parties.

• Cross-device compatibility remains a concern, but with IONChain vision of one device, one coin, one code, different devices embedded with the IONChain can connect, collect and exchange data via a universal standard. This feat is achievable on IONChain because it is decentralized and operates on the blockchain technology.

• Lack of security and privacy: a centralized data storage provides little or no privacy as a third party can easily retrieve personal data and security on a centralized network is not guaranteed. IONChain provides inherent security and privacy with it decentralized nature.

IONChain Edge Computing (IONChain Fog Computing)

Edge computing is the ability of a device to process data near the edge of your network where the data is being generated instead of sending such data to a centralized data processing unit. With IONChain individual devices and cloud are responsible for data processing. Large data can be processed over the cloud, while smaller ones can be processed by local devices.

With edge computing feature, every IoT device embedded with IONChain becomes a mining machine that is able to mine and receive incentives via the “Ionisation algorithm.
