Explaining Crypto To Adults

in #crypto7 years ago

I got the idea to write about this when thinking back on an experience I had when at a financial literacy class. Im apart of Kappa League which is a guide right program. The heads of the program, which is run by Kappa Alpha Ksi, decided to take us to a financial learning center. Pretty much we were split into groups based on age. I being one of the oldest, and president of the program, got put with the older kids. So we listening to talks and do activities. After a few hours we get to the investment portion. This is where things start to get rocky. They open talking about how we as 15-18 yr olds should invest in our future. I agree with this practice, which is one of the reasons I am in crypto. They then talk about how we SHOULDN'T get into volatile markets like bitcoin. I didn't agree to this. One of the main reasons being is the age like they mentioned. In my opinion, young people should get into highly volatile markets due to the fact that we're YOUNG. I echoed this to them we started talking which gradually led into a debate. I told them that high risk- high reward markets a good for young people to get into. I told them about how it can build up risk management and that it can teach a lot about the financial and crypto markets.

From that one of the brothers, of Kappa, asked why i don't like stocks. I told him that they're too slow, in order for me to participate the fees are ridiculous, and that I enjoy the free that non regulation gives cryptocurrency. He of course looked at me like I was crazy and proceeded to talk about how to open a brokerage account. This rubbed me the wrong way and showed me that most adults arent ready for the fresh air which the cryptocurrency space gives us. DSt_dpZVMAYpvwv.jpg

In conclusion the debate was very beneficial. I had a few adults after come up to me wanting to learn more. As for the brother he taught me that even though Im under 18 I can still invest in stocks. We also talked about how maybe this new way of innovation simply isnt for him which I think is key. So many times adults bash Cryptocurrency. They do this with minimal research and no real experience. So to them I say get into the space, learn about the space, then draw a conclusion. This is because for most, crypto probably isn't for them.
