RE: Name YOUR decentralized social network?

in #cryptocurrencies7 years ago (edited)

New ideas: Feed, Chime, Credtube/tunes, Immortal, Jot, Recorded, Tubular, and Wepedia.

Synopsis follows.

Which all-around, overarching names (that also work as the token name) or names assigned to specific apps appeal to the community for blogging, videos, music, Q&A, messaging+contacts, discussions, and/or games?

Candid
Cred (credibility)
Crux
Feed
Gist
Grok
Gush
Illume
Interact
Junction
Knuggets
Links
Lucid
Mojo
Mosh
Oz
Unglued
Yak
Yaketyyak
Yard
Yonder

Filipinas (in my household) don’t like the longer three syllable names and don’t grok most of the words. Yak sounds like ‘yuk’ and Mosh like ‘mash’ or ‘mush’. They preferred:

Candid
Cred (ibility)
Feed
Junction
Links
Yonder

They like Cred perhaps bcz I’ve been mentioning it for months and it’s easy to speak. It means to them ‘credit’ as a positive association to microfinancing, or the attribution of recognition.

Both like the unique nice sound of Yonder for a contacts list+messaging and more so upon grokking its definition.

They grok an Internet news feed but Feed associates more with food+feeding.

They grok Internet Links as sharing links to videos on their Facebook timeline.

They know a Junction in the road where they were born and raised, but this doesn’t really associate with any concept of the Internet for them.

They liked Candid even though they didn’t grok it because it sounds like “can did” (can do) something and the name also makes them think of ‘candy’.

These filipinas here aren’t using Quora so they have no preference for a Q&A site name.

I wasn’t able to get this update into the blog before the 7 day editing period expired.

Blogging name

I must agree that Cred is the best overarching name and token name. I suppose it could even work as the blogging site name because we earn credibility and credit/recognition for blogging.

Contemplating all the problems with monetizing blogging content, the most important feature of our blogging with be the cred rewards. So Cred as the blog name sidesteps the issues I noted with the other proposed blogging names. Other developers could use the Lucid name to produce an alternative blogging platform or UI analogous to busy.org being an alternative (for now alternative UI only) to Steemit.

Video sharing name

Although Candid does associate with photography and videography, it implies that it must be about people letting their guard down. That seems to pigeonhole what the videos should be about. Also the name seems rehashed and not fresh (avant garde) enough for me. I think the name for a video site should either say something important about benefits (e.g. Your videos = Youtube) or it should connote arts.

For benefits, then cred.tv (which I registered for $9) or funtube.com (which is listed for sale asking $71,875 or a minimum offer of €4900) seems more direct to point. The filipinas here seem to agree with me that that CredTV (or Credtube) is just slightly favored because more direct to the point than Candid, but they like both names.

Q & A wiki name

I still like Grok the best for this because it’s the verb “to gain zen level understanding of something”, which is the entire point of a Q & A wiki. Whereas, Crux is describing what an answer could strive but doesn’t necessarily have to be. It’s a site is for smart people who want to share and gain more specific knowledge. Thus they should warm to the definition of this term. And since this name is so unique, then it’s avant garde and brandable. Also it’s crisply spoken and easy to spell. Quora is more difficult to speak and spell (I find I must associate it to ‘quote’ in my mind in order to memorize it).

Microblogging name

I like Feed best for notifications and microblogging of the name ideas presented thus far.

Messaging+videochat name

Junction⁇ Now that Yak is disfavored for being associated with ‘yuk’ and realization that many people won’t associate Links to links between contacts, remaining choices aren’t stellar. Although the filipinas in my household like Yonder, it doesn’t seem to have the same level of appreciation by myself and others. I registered credtalk.com for $9 for another option.

Discussion forums name

YaketyYak seems to exclude serious discussion. I registered credtalk.com for $9 as another option. But I’m hoping we can think of a better name.

EDIT: my thought process above and @quillfiller’s comment below, I’m pondering if all the messaging, discussion, and chat should be integrated for interoperability of all features users want, even though users need the option to make some communications private or exclusive to a group. Initially I thought ‘rapport’ but can be confused with ‘report’ and it only associates w\harmonizing (in communication). I then thought of Chime which associates with harmonization, instant notification, and a notion “chiming in” to discussion. I also thought of ‘jot’ (as in “jot down”) for the microblogging, but perhaps prefer one name Chime for all 3 of the discussion categories: microblogging, discussion forum, messaging+chat. Amazon launched a Amazon Chime messaging app in 2017, but Chime apps existed in 2013 and 2015 so it appears there’s no trademark claim preventing our use.

I registered chimeee.com, chimeto.com, chimeus.com, chime.town, chimetown.com, chime.network, jot.co.com, jot.us.com, jotit.us, jotit.me, and jotitus.com for $107 total.

Music collection name

Mosh⁇ After more thought, this isn’t very descriptive of a music site nor does it convey any strong benefit for the users or musicians.

I think we’ll want to emphasize some closer interaction between the fans of musicians or the benefit of the rewards for both the fans and the musicians. The cred reward system could motivate musicians to not throw away exclusive rights to Spotify, SoundCloud, or Tidal. I registered credtunes.com for $9 as another option.

We possibly could even use Gush for the “fans gushing over their favorite artists”. But that seems too tabloid journalism associated for my tastes.

EDIT: similarly my thought is to combine the video and music sharing sites. Or this name could be just for the music. And thus I propose the name Immortal which has an alternative meaning: “deserving to be remembered forever”. This also vaguely implies the no censorship concept, but in a positive meme. We immortalize by recording ourselves.

I registered immortal.video and immortalee.com for $16 total.

Another suggestion for an overarching name for music and video sharing is Tube or (even if only in the interim) Tubular which was 1980s surfer lingo for very cool, awesome, groovy, or “rad”(ical). Or this name could be just for the videos.

Also after sleeping on this edit and considering @quillfiller’s edited response, I’m also proposing the name Recorded (and variants) which might imply immutability and no censorship w/o negativity. Recorded lacks pizzazz, but it’s factual, professional, and differentiates more (i.e. brandable) than variants of the ‘tube’ meme. For a trendier slant there’s Recordegg which sounds like ‘recorded’ yet also perhaps associates with treasures of an Easter egg hunt.

I registered tubular.in, tubular.fun, tubularfun.com, tubulare.com, tubularooo.com, record.im, recordim.com, recorda.us, recordegg.com, recorded.ws, recorded.fun, recordedws.com, recordedfun.com, recordedco.com, recordedapp.com, and recorded.us.com for $125 total.

Cred as the name does have a lot going for it, even means money of the future to most people, Creds....

Here kid, I'll Cred you 5 if you run down to pops at the mechmart and pickup the DZ350 cybernetic arm I ordered in last week, and keep sharp because some fools have been reprogramming drones to grab stuff and fly off with it....

Just a thought. Will it be possible to make smart contracts ect on Cred?

Here kid, I'll Cred you 5 if you […]

Yeah that was similar to what I wrote privately when I thought of the name last year.

Will it be possible to make smart contracts ect on Cred?

I’ve been doing some thinking about that since June 10, 2016 (c.f. also) when I warned of the imminent DAO attack before it was perpetrated by Bitcoin $billionaire Mircea Popescu. Concisely, my contribution to the decentralized project will my usual out-of-the-box thinking approach.
