Blockchain will be in the service of the US police

Axon Enterprise, a U.S. police equipment company, is exploring the possibility of using blockchain for its cameras to combat video fraud.
The US government and technology companies have turned their attention to Deepfake technology, which, using trained neural networks, allows you to replace one person with another on video, change your voice, and so on. At the same time, it is far from always possible to determine a fake.

Deepfake can be widely used by attackers to manipulate and discredit anyone. In addition, the technology can be used to fake video recordings from wearable police surveillance cameras.

Axon Enterprise plans to use the blockchain to verify the authenticity of such videos - in the new generation of devices, the company will add a special digital signature to help confirm the authenticity of the video.

“Axon recognizes the threats posed by Deepfake videos. This technology is depriving video recordings of confidence, including data from underbody police cameras, ”a company spokesman said in an interview with Reuters.

Note that blockchain is already being used to verify the authenticity of a wide range of products - from drugs to alcohol. Now, it seems that the authenticity of digital video recordings can also be verified using distributed registry technology.
