With Ethereum price tanking as of recently, Ethereum futures contracts could be a mechanism to revive this token from a price action standpoint.
Could it be or is it going to only allow for more manipulation of the markets?
The article says at one point,
We could agree with this, probably more vehicles upon cryptocurrency is only good for the metagame of cryptocurrency and the reason is, it allows more people to invest.
Now, people would say, Oh no, it's about manipulating the markets, what's gonna happen?
We know from Andreas M. Antonopoulos, and he is very dogmatic on this in which he really doesn't like Bitcoin futures and probably won't like Ethereum futures. However, Andreas M. Antonopoulos is a dogmatic purist, and we need people like him to be shouting from the rooftops, the good news of bitcoin and blockchain technology.
However, he did concede the fact that the reality is here, the reality is reality and the futures will come out and we're just going to have to deal with it.

From a pragmatic standpoint, probably the futures are only good thing, it gives more news to to the world about bitcoin and now ethereum. More people are going to be learning about this new vehicle and institutional investors can come in.
Now, will it manipulate the market? We have probably no idea, we hope it won't, but past experience tells us that there's a high chance that it will manipulate. But does this matter? No, because you and I don't matter in that regard, we are small fish, we are retail investors, we are looking at the long run.
This is why are probably gonna win regardless of the vacillating ideas of bitcoin futures or ethereum futures, it doesn't matter.
You don't really need to worry about shorting Ether right now, because Ether is pretty much all time lows, relatively speaking.
Why Ethereum is tanking right now, is because companies need to spend Ethereum to survive from flooding the market with Ethereum.
Probably the assumption is well verified, that institutional investors want different or even any other traders want more options to trade cryptocurrency.
Long term, short term, that's what you need to think about. Short term price action, which is but a scratch, long term, that's why we are here.
Let me know your thoughts on Ethereum futures in the future, good thing or bad thing?

A lot of the projects on the blockchain sold ETH for USD to invest in real markets such as Real Estate. Buying millions of dollars and shorting ETH is essential at the moment because the market in general doesn't accept Crypto.
While in the long term, when more people adapts crypto payments, project creators won't need to exchange ETH for USD anymore.
This will of course give ETH more value and the USD will eventually crash.
