Protecting your funds

It’s a wild west out here. Watch out for cowboys, here’s how…

Crypto assets at their very basic level are data. Protect the data and your assets will be protected. Basically you must consider; what info am I revealing about myself and the data I possess?

How cowboys can use it against you?

Information from spyware such as mobile apps, trojans, viruses, Cookies Social Signals like Twitter, Meetup, Slack, Facebook, Bitcoin forum discussions can all be used against you. Thieves can create replicas of trusted cryptocurrency websites and wallet providers and with the subtlest rearrangement of letters in the URL are able to direct you straight into their pocket. Be extremely careful and triple check you have the correct URL and only follow links and information from trusted sources.

When dealing with cryptocurrency you need to assume that there are thieves everywhere who are actively trying to steal your tokens. This is not an assumption, this is reality. It can be devastantingly costly and your hard earned capital can be taken in seconds due to the simplest of human errors. Due to the nature of the Crypto world and blockchain technology, these mistakes can’t be rectified. In simpler terms… tough shit!

Protecting yourself

Careful cryptocurrency buyers need to protect the full spectrum of internet footprints in order not to attract the wrong kind of attention:

Installing applications which can monitor your browsing behaviour or can access your social profile can also provide thieves or hackers with crucial targeting information.

Using certain types of browsers or add-ons to certain browsers reduces their ability to collect information on you. Compulsory rules in order to protect your stash:

• Use 2FA (two-factor authentication) at all times, this enhances the security when trying to log in to your accounts, making it a trickier job for anyone else to get access.
• Keep funds on exchanges for as little as possible. Send them to your secure wallet as quickly (but carefully) as you can. Hackers and phishers are able to navigate through these exchanges expertly.
• Keep off-site backups

Imagine you had $1,000,000 in cash. You’d keep it safe and locked away and secure as possible, right? The same applies to cryptocurrency… lock it away and guard it with as much security as you can muster, don’t just hide it under the mattress!

As we all know, the world can be a crazy place, the Crypto world is no different. It can be unpredictable, a single press release can bring the whole market into a temporary crash costing buyers tons of money. It can be dangerous as you will have discovered reading this. But be careful, be smart, and welcome to the wonderful world of Cryptocurrency!
