You can now be a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda with bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as the latest report was released in AntiguaNewsRoom stating that the government of the country now accepts cryptocurrency as a payment for its citizenship.
According to the article, the parliament of Antigua and Barbuda has recently amended their country’s citizenship by investment program (CIP) that provides and allows payments of citizenship through using cryptocurrencies. The resolution was passed through the hearing made by the country’s lower house and positive remarks were given during the court session that no debate occurred in the court. Moreover, the resolution also applies on acceptance in payments made in Euros other than US dollars.
“So not only are we [Antigua and Barbuda] providing the capacity for payment in Euros, but we are also proving for payments using bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies,” stated Gaston Browne, Antigua and Barbuda’s prime minister and minister of finance.
In October last year, the country’s parliament already gave an enormous amendment with their citizenship funding system. With the help of Antigua’s National Development Fund (NDF), the parliament lessened the price of citizenship payment for almost half of the original amount which makes it available for $100,000. Due to this, the citizenship in Antigua now ranges in less than 13 BTC at current prices.
