I would suggest reading up about blockchain technology and purposes/functions of different coins. If you are interested in trading/buying and holding you will need to open an account where you can buy coins for $/£/Euros or another currency. If you want to access these less known coins (altcoins) you will probably have to open accounts on one of even a few different exchanges where these coins are exchanged for other cryptocurrencies. There are numerous guides created about how to get started - youtube and google are your friends. Good luck.
