There is a revolution going on and you are part of it! (Maybe not even knowing it, until you read this article...)

I wanted to share an insight with you I had some days ago, when reflecting why I actually love STEEM more than any other crypto.
This may not come to a big surprise to you, but actually for me it is - especially with all the implications.
We all know, that STEEM is extremely fast and cheap. We know about the possibilities to earn it through content production and that STEEM is much more than Steemit (which is only the first App to use the STEEM blockchain). Also there are still huge developments coming up with the introduction of Smart Media Token.
What I came up with, when asking myself the question, why it is, that I´m falling in love with STEEM more and more every day, I came to this conclusion:

STEEM is the only Crypto/Blockchain that I am really using daily! (...and probably you do too!)

Simple but powerful and seemingly obvious, but think about it:

  • When was the last time, you have really used blockchain technology?
  • When was the last time, you have bought something with a cryptocurrency?
  • Is there any blockchain technology out there, that you can use (besides just trading virtual token on virtual exchanges)?
  • Is there any blockchain, that has changed anything you do in your daily life?
  • Is there any blockchain that pays you for your work?
  • Is there any working (!) blockchain, that changes the way people communicate, interact and run their business?

Actually I didn´t want to write another post about Steemit on Steemit - you know, it´s like every new social network that comes out and every second post is about the social media site you use to write the post.... It happened on Facebook, Twitter and every other site... Self-referential stuff is annoying after some time, but I had to write this post here, because the implications are really bigger than you might think

I like to read and comment on posts of @taskmaster4450 who is writing a lot on the bigger picture of Steem and some philosophical, futurist stuff about the way Steem is revolutionary. I only yesterday - when commenting on one of his posts about the call to become SOCIAL and interact more - finally grasped the change this technology is bringing on the way we do business.

If DACs (decentralized autonomous communities/companies) are to become a reality, this means the biggest shift of power, control and influence in the history of mankind!
It means, that power will shift from being in the hands of a few selected people, to everyone.
So everyone will have a small amount of power and control, that is intrinsically evenly distributed.
That´s nothing new by the idea alone, but :

What are the most important parts in every revolution?

The first one is communication. Without communication, there is no revolution.
The second one is, that it has to be doable and reflect in daily actions that make the revolution visible.
Basically: If no one hears about a revolution, no one will know. If the revolution is not visible, it simply stays a philosophical idea!

Guess what STEEM is doing for us?
Right! It gives us the possibility to be heard and seen through the simple daily practice of communicating and changing the way we do it.
Value is a consensus thing and also one of the most ignored traits in human interaction.
It´s not enough if you declare that something has value - there have to be other people agreeing to make something really valuable.
This is something, I´ve always lived by and the basis of all my business behaviour:

You can´t fake value!

I love this sentence and already thought of getting a tattoo of it somewhere ;)
So we are here on Steemit and we are providing value. A value that is based on communication and action - a value that´t can´t be faked, because it´s visible.

Besides the monetary value of STEEM, there is an immense humanitarian one. How else would I have known about a street seller in Norway, that accepts cryptocurrency, was it not through @scandinavianlife post about @movingman? How would it be possible to get in touch with philosophers like @samueldouglas that bring the bigger implications of the blockchain to people out there?

We are only the spear front, my friends.
We are not only thinking about the revolution, we are already part of the revolution and maybe aren´t aware of it.
This is what makes STEEM so revolutionary and this is just the beginning....

I only hope though that the whale wars end. When we google steemit, the front page first article contains bad images and bad words, trying to wash dirty linen in public. Why cant the steemit owners do something about it? I mean suspend the defaulters for a short period of time and they wont be able to post about it.
You are right, Steem is the only stable currency that has withstood the storm, if only, blocktrades had a fiat conversion facility, I would never have to rely on my govt. fearing agency

Thank you so much for your reply @sayee! You are speaking to my heart!
I also wished for more possibilities to exchange fiat to STEEM directly without it being dependent on the dying BTC. The whale situation is only showing us the shadow side of humanity - these whales are bored, have no other hobby and interest and lost the bigger picture out of sight.
They could very well support posts like ours to help the network and loyalty grow, which would be a much wiser decision in long term!
I guess the reason, why the owners of Steemit don´t react is because of the dezentralised nature itself - we as a community need to solve this problem - everyone has to use their own power to be an agent of change.
Much love, Atmos!

so right you are. I wish the decentralised platform that steemit is, also brings about a rule to cap misuse by those who hold power. I do not know if the owners will do it but it will certainly bring good to steemit in the long run. All I see now is whales and their followers ( chamchas in Hindi, you know the people who say yes to everything you say because you have power). Thanks for your reply.

If this would be Facebook, I would give your comment a ❤️vote!

i just got to know about the beef between certain whales. I didnt think it was that bad.

Well, it simply gives a bad impression to the outside and for newbies. Also their voting power could be used to do some good instead of downvoting each other.

that is true

Great work! Hit some valid points that i myself see some downsides, especially about "the masses" going from facebook etc to Steem, could possibly seem too dawnting.. But then again, there are more and more people who are hearing of crypto and everyone i see in citys are glued to the internet, paying with the phones etc and more people know that moneys is just a promise of payment, thus creating more people who invest in crypto- who have never been investing or trading anything before (that used to be just for the buisness suits and briefcases 😊) and i think if people grasp that to leave fiat in a bank, will never be a benifit, soon word of mouth, spread on the street will make more people see that your money that mostly is hardworked for,is much better invested in something that will be adopted fully in the future oneway or another! If you have money just sat in the bank, then all crypto is a great investment, and im new to steem, and i fucking love it after 2 days! Big love!

I still see some challenges with steem or in particular steemit

  1. Bots - buying upvotes is manipulation, but nearly everyone does is because nobody - at least no central party - can't stop it. There has to be a way to stop that in a decentralised way.
  2. Laws - like the one from Germany that you must delete "illegal content" including hate speech and stuff within 24 hours. On a blockchain you simply can't delete it, because everything is immutable. Well, you can edit it the first 7 days but that's it. That could face fines up to 50 Million €.
  3. Business - You have to register a Business if you use Steemit because you generate income. At least in Germany, I don't know how this works in other countries.
  4. Whales - already covered by @sayee here in the comments

I really like steemit, but these are challenges they face which can lead to big problems, especially those with the government. Therefore, I like hangig around here reading nice articles like this one but I don't invest in it. It's too risky imho.

And a last point: New members like me having a really hard time to earn money with it without investing. And I really don't want to invest. And I think 95+% of new members won't invest, especially those who come from facebook or similar platforms. They don't understand blockchain. They don't put $5000 into SP that that upvotes are worth more. They come because they see: "Hey some people getting $100+ for a single post. I want that too!". As soon as they realise that's not possible they stop using it - not all but many.

I just wanted to share some negative aspects to think about. @atmosblack keep up the great articles. I enjoy reading every single one of them.

Thanks for your wonderful comment and the valid points you are bringing up!

  • Bots are a problem and also an opportunity. Yes, I also would like to live in a world, where bots are not that important. At the moment they are - especially for newbies. Without them, you won´t earn anything at all, because whales don´t care and "good content" is not that important to them. Luckily the minnows and dolphins of today, will become whales in the future and have the chance to stick to their higher standards of value and rewarding post, without misusing their power.
  • Laws are also a problem - espeically in Germany where there are very restricted laws and everything that would allow true freedom is considered a criminal behaviour. Unfortunately we can´t expect Steemit to sort thing out, so we have to find our own path to deal with it.
  • Business is a similar point, but as long as you are not converting STEEM to fiat under a year and hold your STEEM longer than a year, your rewards are treated like an investment and dividends (like other investments, shares etc.). If you are cashing out, it won´t be different to any other blogger or YouTuber out there, who is earning rewards from their posts and videos. So Steemit is not different there....

Regarding your last point I totally agree. It´s simply a fact, that 90% of social media users are passive and don´t want or are not able to produce content at all. You have this situation with every Facebook page, where 5% are contributing regularly and another 5% from time to time and the rest being just passive consumers that may hit "like" sometimes but mostly be quite.
That´s why I think, we shouldn´t market STEEM as an income opportunity to the masses. I wrote an article about this here
We will need the 90%, but we shouldn´t make them believe, that the main reason for being here is to earn money - it´s simply not true.

One more thing: It's hard to find good content. A lot of people (probably most of them are bots) are copy & paste articles from the internet and try to earn money. You read a new article on cointelegraph and within minutes there are like 10 new posts on steemit. This should be censored as duplicate way harder.

Thanks for your comment! I´m busy at the moment, but I will reply to you tomorrow!

Thanks @atmosblack for this article, including the flattering mention :) I'm only new to this community, but I can already see that the steem ecosystem has the potential to be supremely game-changing in terms of how content producers, communities, and whole economies interact. Nothing else I've seen comes close to fulfilling the sci-fi predictions of what blockchain technology could do.

i totally agree with you. steemit is the only crypto created and developing community of people rather then mining with miners. thanks

I love the SBD, everything regarding it is so simple and easy.

Thank you @atmosblack for making a transfer to me for an upvote of 4.27% on this post! Half of your bid goes to @budgets which funds growth projects for Steem like our top 25 posts on Steem! The other half helps holders of Steem power earn about 60% APR on a delegation to me! For help, will you please visit https://jerrybanfield.com/contact/ because I check my discord server daily?
