WHAT IS IMPORTANT?
It is very important to know the cryptocurrencies that are doing well in the market. You can visit www.coinmarketcap.com. . As you can see from this website, there are hundreds of them. But how will you know the ones you could start investing on? There, you can select any top 30 cryptocurrencies on their list because of their huge market capitalizations. You rather make a loss when the value drops lesser than the amount you bought it, than to lose it all. (when the cryptocurrency you are owning liquidates totally, and it's out of the coin capitalization market list.)

The cryptocurrencies below number 30 on their list might be doing well, or do well in future. But the top 30 gives you a higher hope of not liquidating. Make your researches, if you find out that there is a new website that has great ideas (www.steemit.com), and have potentials to do well with an ICO, then you could choose to invest in them so that you could later exchange their coins to other popular coins (Bitcoin), and then circle out your money one day into fiat currency, or re-invest it into something else.

Note that just like popular fiat currencies, lets say Dollars, have lower value beneath it, which is Cent. Or Pounds Sterling have Chillins, so does most cryptocurrencies. Here is a little illustration:
