This is the first time since they have been down that their webpage has responded. This means the web servers are up and running and their DB's are likely currently being fixed. BTC-e is one of the largest exchanges and people saying they are stealing coins are just trying to start panic, btc-e makes WAY more money keeping their service legit than they would just randomly stealing one time. When BTC-e comes back online (hopefully soon today) expect prices across the entire market to go wild!
I would certainly hoped that they had communicated the wallet maintenance more clearly and also confirmed that there is no hack once rumors started. But let's wait and see.
looks like this was wrong, it turns out btc-e didn't even know what was going on. the US GOV raided their servers. They certainly were having technical difficulties ! they had no hard drives !!
