Been mining for a while now mainly with RX480 cards, last month i thought i would try out some ASUS Nvidia 1060 6 GB cards.
I managed to get my hands on 7 of these cards before the prices shot up through the roof. I had two motherboards laying around both with LGA 1150 sockets one with 3 PCIe slots and one with 4 PCIe slots, not ideal but i am waiting for a Biostar board to arrive with 6 PCIe slots so i can try and build another rig with 6 cards and use the 7th card either as a test card as a foundation to build yet another rig to add to the growing mining farm.
Each of the cards are mining ethereum at a respectable 23 Mhs using claymore. I have mined the following:
- Musicoin
- Chaincoin
- Dubaicoin
Yeah, i know people will question why the last two but they have bought in some nice profits to build more mining rigs.
If anyone ha any questions just ask.
Cheers
Joe
Nice set up how much did it run you per card before the price shot up. I was informed that the gtx 1060 work the same as the 3gb to 6gb. Just passing along info that could save you money if you buy more of those cards.
From speaking to other miners there is no difference between the 3gb and 6gb cards, The reason to get the 6gb over the 3gb is the increasing size of the DAG file in Ethereum, but going by what they have planned with Eth's migration to POS using 3gb cards won't be an issue.
Although i would still buy nothing less than 4GB caards.
Nice set up. I need to learn to do what you are doing.
What do you need to know? It's not as difficult as some may think.
Almost everything. Say I am a beginner. I want to start and I am open to any and all suggestions you may have.
First of all you need to understand that this is not a get rich quick scheme but you probably already know this.
You will need a place you can place your mining machine, they are quite noisy and they do produce a fair amount of heat, each card will operate at between 50 to 70 Celcius therefore cooling is important.
Then comes the physical rig it self, when i started i spent too much time and money on building physical rigs to mount all the cards, motherboards, power supplies etc, took too much time and money, we need a good return on investment and spending money on buying materials to build rigs is a waste, the blue frame you see is part of a shelving system I bought that cost less than £100 and can fit 4 individual mining rigs each with up to 6 cards
Have you ever built a P.C before or familiar with the internals of a general P.C? if you have then you are 85% of the way there. Let me know the answer to this and we can take it from there
Cheers

This is great. I really appreciate the info. No I have not built a PC before. I will look on You Tube to help my knowledge as well. You made sense about not spending unnecessary money on rig mounts etc. I am ready for your next thoughts. Yes, I know to be patient and this is by no means a get rich quick scheme.
Wow, you really want to jump in eh! Before you go spending money on mining gear. Yes, absolutely watch videos on youtube on how to build a build a p.c. To be honest building a P.C is very simple in essence you need the following components to build a p.c
If you can find an old PC to take apart would be a great start get you used to all the all components, this would be purely for instructional purposes.
Once you are happy with building a P.C then all you need to add to the above list are:
It's a real headache to get the right components if you are new to mining, but feel free to ask me once you have the basics under your belt or have any questions regarding the above
Cheers
Joe
Excellent. This is fantastic. You have been so helpful. I will start very soon. I will watch videos. I will work on this list you provided and I have two older computers I can tear apart and play with. Thank you very much. I will stay in touch! You are great!
