Winklevoss Own 1% of Bitcoin Supply

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

Tyler and Kemeron Wynklevoss are twin brothers who are known for their suit against Mark Zuckerberg. They won in the court, where they received 65,000 000 USD in 2011. They sued Mark Zuckerberg for the Harvard connection idea theft, which the court partly satisfied.

In 2013, they invested $ 11,000,000 in  Bitcoin. At that time, the price of bitcoin was about $ 120. According to coindesk.com they owned 1% of the total bitcoin supply. According to today's data, they owned:

11 000 000/120 = 91700 bitcoin.

At the time of writing, the price of bitcoin is $ 8,324. The dollar equivalent of their bitcoins is  91700 * 8324 = $ 763 310 800

The goal of twin brothers is not just to earn money with bitcoins, they have bigger plans. In early 2017, they tried to create a so-called "exchange traded fund" (ETF).  ETF is  financial instrument, which can be converted to paper at any moment on the stock exchange at a reasonable price for the market. It can be promotions, commodity, or asset baskets like s&p500. Unfortunately, the United States Securities and Exchange Markets Commission refused to make an application because Bitcoin was considered a high probability of fraud. I would like to point out that if the brothers had a "green light" from the Commission, it would open a lot of institutional investors for bitcoin. Not surprisingly, Taylor and Camerone have a very good reason to record their achievements, but their counterpart, Mark Zuckerberg's equivalent in the dollar, according to the magazine Forbes, makes up 71 billion dollars.

"If bitcoin is better than gold, or perceived as a golden-like asset, then its market capitalization can reach trillions. We believe it is possible '' - the twin brothers of Winklevoss.
