Phones and blockchain technology
Recently, I have been considering what the future may look like, with cryptocurrencies becoming so common and the popularity of decentralised networks. We are excited at the possibility of a future decentralised internet and banks, while we already enjoy decentralised currency.
One area I would really like to see this come to be would be in phone networks. Wouldn't it be nice if we no longer had to pay for rediculous tariffs to use a mobile/cell phone? What if it were decentralised, what if there were no T-Mobile or Orange and in its place was a user run p2p network. I know the phone companies would fight us at every step, but so what? They have made their Millions.
I like things being run by a community effort instead of corporate overlords, who continue to increase cost and decrease service. One day we could rid ourselves of these scumbags and put our faith in community once more.
Just food for thought :)

It will be the best and will save us lots of money
There is a coin that is working on some sort of decentralized phone network I believe.. Can't remember the name. Once I do I will come back and post it.
Yes, please do!
I do not know whether the tech already exists. But if so, somebody will get the same idea as you do.
For now, we simply have to pay for what companies had to invest in their network. That's the way it is.
There are already some solutions available, but they do not use blockchain technology. What you seem to be describing is what is called a "Mesh Network", some apps already do something similar but of cause they are all limited by the number of users in the vicinity and works over WiFi or Bluetooth. All have to run the same Mesh app.
But I agree completely, that we should aim for decentralized future also when it comes to our phones. I think the biggest problem right now, is that there are no good radio frequencies to make it work perfectly because they are locked down and illegal to use for people/corp's that don't pay for the right to use them.
