As a trader in the cryptocurrency space for the last four years, I've come to focus on investing in assets that seem undervalued in relation to their competition. I'm not a day-trader, so my recommendations here are for coins that should be held through short-term fluctuations.
Remember, use this list as a jumping-off point and do your own due-diligence!

1.) Shift (SHIFT) - Current Price ~$2.50 - Website
I'm a sucker for the idea of a decentralized web. The Shift team is currently one of the leaders in this space and yet their market cap is far below other projects. They have a thriving community with several active developers and one of their flagship projects, "Phantom," a decentralized web-host that integrates with their coin, is launching in the coming weeks.
2.) Factom (FCT) - Current Price ~$29.75 - Website
Calling a coin with a market cap close to $300Million undervalued might seem strange, but in Factom's case it's justified. With a strong development team of around 20, and several projects linked to government programs related to data integrity, Factom strikes me as one of the few coins out there attached to a real-world use that isn't simply relying on speculation.
3.) Byteball (GBYTE) - Current Price ~$728.00 - Website
This recommendation comes from my personal use of the product. Over the last few weeks I have been sending Byte back and forth with my roommates who were previously disinterested in the entire cryto-space. The wallet is easy to use and new features are being developed as we speak. While the tech behind (DAG) is certainly novel, it's the simplicity that's most attractive. Human-readable smart-contracts, simple asset creation, chat-bots for trading--I've played with all of this and it all works. With active development and an interesting distribution system, I'm hooked.
4.) Peercoin (PPC) - Current Price $2.36 - Website
One of the original alt-coins, and the first to use Proof of Stake, Peercoin is still being actively developed. Beyond anything else, Peercoin was designed as a store-of-value, and having held the coin for years now, I can attest to the security of the network. While largely ignored by investors during this current boom, I would imagine it will have another breakout moment before long.
5.) Counterparty (XCP) - Current Price $17.43 - Website
Still the easiest way to create your own token is through Counterparty. Their interface is clean and simple to use and is backed by the massive Bitcoin Blockchain. It's been interesting to watch projects like FoldingCoin, based upon XCP, shoot up while the masses seem to ignore the value behind Counterparty itself. Use cases like PepeCash also point to a bigger use for XCP in the digital rights management world.

So there you have it! I'd love to hear what you think. If there's enough interest, I could certainly go into more detail on each of these coins.
Happy trading.
Cheers!
Daniel
