Thanks for your review--I was wondering about the Ledger. I recently got a Trezor and am learning the ropes with that--it's more of a learning curve than I thought it would be. I definitely agree that a hardware wallet is essential. Coinbase and other exchanges are okay if you just have a small amount there for convenience but anything you 'can't afford to lose' needs to go on a hardware device.
