Forks seem to be backed by people who got into bitcoin for immediate profit, and opposed by people who are genuinely interested in the technology behind bitcoin. We must not sacrifice the long term potential of bitcoin for immediate profit. Bitcoin has the potential to be as mainstream as internet is, and it is this potential that we must pursue, not some temporary solution to network congestion. If internet got divided everytime people felt it to be too congested and slow we would be left with our individual computers and nothing else today.
