Why don't more people get involved with Crypto-currency?

in #cryptocurrency8 years ago (edited)

Hi All,

Being my first Steemit post and due to recently taking a lot more effort to make people 'Crypto Aware', I thought why not talk about all the people who are not 'Crypto Aware', or choose to be blind to Bitcoin, the Blockchain and other Crypto-currencies.

We are already far past seeing the benefits of the Blockchain and how it will change the Finance, Trade and even the social landscapes in years to come. (I mean even this is a social media site, no?!) So what happens when you talk to most people who have not yet, or refuse to come to this conclusion?

In my experience, most people I talk to about Crypto-currency come out with the same thing first...'So, how do you make money?'. Personally, I think this question is already answered, as we are talking about acquiring Currency itself, therefore just having a little Crypto in your wallet IS how you 'get money'. Going by what I have found, this seems to be the thing that the 'average Joe' finds difficult to get their head around overall.

Realizing that Crypto-currencies are in fact the currencies/monies of the future is not an easy concept to accept for most. I feel however that it should be. I mean we've been working our way towards a digital monetary system ever since the first computer based accounts systems were introduced and in 2017 we are currently just a few short steps away from becoming a totally cashless society.

The thing with talking to people about 'digital money', is that they can all agree that electronic transactions are today's standard transaction AND in fact where the future of finance is to be. What a lot of people can also accept is that their current Fiat accounts are just 'numbers on a screen', so to speak and when I challenge anyone to prove how their money is backed the general consensus is to change the subject, lol. There is also the fact that with Crypto-currencies their is a lot to take in with regards to learning and most of us who are already getting/got our feet in the door are still learning. We spend a lot of time, effort and BTC (lol), just learning how to survive in the Crypto landscape, many times before we manage to break even on our initial investment. However, we keep going, learning along the way, until we are also earning.

One concept I commonly put to people is, If you had £1m stashed away in cash somewhere, what will this be worth when things go fully digital? Another thing is, if you were to try and convert this money, what kind of tax/money laundering action could be levied against you? Not to mention that once new notes come into circulation, how do you change up all that money in time? This normally gets people thinking and sparks some interesting debate among the naysayers. I find this a better way to approach people, as their initial view becomes much more serious when I put things like this.

Again, these are just my experiences and opinions. ;-)

Just to give a bit of information about my journey and why I've ended up here, after all, this is my introductory post! :-)

When I first started in Bitcoin I was skeptical, I didn't know how, or where to buy from, where to store my BTC, or how to use it to make more. In the end I started of using Faucets until I built up around three quarters of a Bitcoin (BTC was £241 at the time). When I finally decided to buy in on the 2016 halving drop, I had a Debit Card problem using both Coinbase and Circle. The next day, in fact that evening, Bitcoin was doubled (£347-£623). The three quarters I had was yet to be claimed on FaucetBox, from an old Blockchain wallet and various other Faucets also. I lost basically all of it except £20 worth of BTC and after going without a PC or Internet connection for almost 6 months I never reclaimed anything but the original £20 I had in my Coinbase wallet, along with another £7 I had in a Xapo wallet. When I checked the prices in November2016 I was happy to see my investment going up, since then I have actively been saving my money into Bitcoin and other Crypto-currencies. I have recently got into Crypto-Trading and have had my hands in everything from Fauceting, to Crypto-Gambling. I am now looking into other ways to explore and make money in the Crypto world aside from investing, such as, mining, sites, apps, games wallets etc...

Steemit is a great platform for me to both air out my views and collect some Crypto whilst doing so, it also gives me the chance to become a part of a great growing online community of people with similar views and aspirations when it comes to Crypto-currencies.

So, hello to the vets, welcome to the newbies and thanks for reading!
