This resonated deeply with me. Ive had the same conversations and the same experiences. I think you hit the nail on the head with "personal responsibility". Thats exactly what it boils down to. People don't want to be responsible for themselves because when shit goes south there will be no one to blame. Who can blame them, generations of conditioning have done their work well.
