Not only can you store BTC and other alt coins on KeepKey, you can also exchange them right on the wallet.
This is a great way to streamline how you trade cryptos.
Inside the box you will receive the hardware wallet along with the USB cord and the very important card which you will use to write down your 12-word recovery sentence.
KeepKey works with PC, Mac, Linnux and Android systems.
Download the KeepKey Client app from Google Chrome.
Plug the wallet into your computer using the USB cord provided and open the KeepKey Client App.
You will initialize the device and input your PIN code.
The boxes on the computer screen correspond to the numbers being displayed on your KeepKey wallet.
This is an additional layer of security that keeps your PIN from any security threats.
You will be asked to repeat your PIN code again to confirm.
Notice that the numbers displayed on your KeepKey have been shuffled again.
Next your KeepKey will display a list of 12 words. Write these words down onto the “Recovery Sentence” sheet provided.
Be sure to spell these words correctly and write them in the correct order that is displayed on your KeepKey wallet.
This is what you will need if your KeepKey wallet is ever damaged, lost or stolen. So keep this sheet in a safe place.
After you’ve written your Recovery Sentence down, push the button on your KeepKey to confirm that the information has been written down.
Shortly after you will see your accounts on display on the KeepKey Client app on your computer.
Create a new account and name it, then you can send the appropriate crypto coin to the matching wallet by selecting the “receive Bitcoin/dash/ethereum…”
Copy the address provided and use that to withdraw coins from an exchange or other wallets.
The best thing about KeepKey is the fact that they’ve partnered with ShapeShift.
This enables you to exchange coins for one another on your very own hardware wallet.
No need for online exchanges!
Check out the video around the 4:20 mark to see how this is done.
As you can see, the entire setup process for this hardware wallet took less than 2 minutes and was very straightforward and easy to do.
The added security of the PIN code and the ability to trade your coins on your hardware wallet without the need for an exchange really makes this a great option if you’re looking to invest in a hardware wallet.
Awesome, Heidi. Thanks for explaining the ShapeShift integration as well :)
Woah, cool to see you guys active on the platform! :)
Looks solid @heiditravels thanks for the tip.
Advances in these things just keep getting better.
Great post! It's important to push the idea of removing coins from exchanges and keeping them somewhere, preferably to a hardware wallet! This is the only way to ensure safety of your assets.
Really nice and informative review! Your eyes lit up when you realized you almost showed your 12 words. :D
So looks like this is 99 bux on Amazon and with a very good rating. I may get one, but I wonder if I can turn my Raspberry Pi 3 into a hardware wallet. I'll search for some info on that!
Great stuff! I still need to get me one of these... been using paper wallets for too long ha!
Great info!
Great review, Heidi, thank you. I've been wondering lately about the best ways to keep my coins safe – this looks like a great option.

I have been using my keepkey for about a month now but you beat me to the review ;) Good post! I am an advocate for hardware wallets, I think they are great! BTW Did you see any way to remove an account?
Keep up the good work Heidi.
Nice - I was waiting for Jaxx wallet to come out with a hardware wallet since it has the same features but it looks like Keep Key beat them to the punch. No need to wait now, thanks
Thanks for the useful information.
Thank you for the valuable information!
Do you happen to know if it supports multisig addresses?
Nice, I hadn't heard of this one!
lol did anyone else just see the smiley "-.-" when this popped up?
Good)
Ah great info. I have a Ledger but heard "KeepKey" quite often during the last few weeks. The shapeshift feature is pretty neat. Do you see any other advantages to the Ledger - is it safer?
Btw: Came here from the Cryptocurrency Market Channel.
I'm a newbie to CryptoLand and like to understand good ways to cold store crypto currencies. I notice more and more dedicated cold storages coming to market. What is in your view the best one to look at today?
Someone advised me to take a Android smartphones and dedicated that as a cold store device. The good thing is that a have many Android devices unused. Would you advise this?
Nice! Thank you, will be buying this one
