Is a Decentralized Private Exchange Coming to DeepOnion? It's not what you think

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago (edited)

With all the recent discussions concerning DeepOnion's development of the world's first cryptocurrency smart contract platform built on the TOR-Network it came at no surprise that the idea of building the world's first decentralized exchange built upon said network would be the next big move. While such an exchange could be built, and the developers for DeepOnion undoubtedly could do so, it's highly unlikely that they will actually build it. However, you should freight not as such an exchange could be developed by another group on the DeepOnion platform!

First, we'll discuss why the DeepOnion developers are unlikely to entertain the idea of building an exchange; despite there being a plethora of badass names for it, e.g. DeepX or DeepExchange. Such an exchange would draw the ire of state and national governments as assets could be transferred anonymously. These governments are already concerned about folks not paying their fair share of taxes on their crypto as well as money laundering so the idea of a anonymous exchange would be particularly worrisome to these governments. The administrator of one of these exchanges will constantly be subject to subpoena's, harassment and potentially criminal charges. Accordingly, it just wouldn't be worthwhile for the DeepOnion developers to pursue such an exchange in my opinion.

However, recall that DeepOnion is building their own smart contract platform. A smart contract platform built on the TOR-Network would open the doors to another team, unrelated to DeepOnion, to simply build their own project on DeepOnion's platform. This is great for DeepOnion for two reasons. First, it may separate DeepOnion from the potential criminal and civil liability as it would be unable to control to control the other team utilizing their platform. Second, it would bring in new people, potentially some whales, into the DeepOnion community.

So freight not as we we may be able to experience the best of both worlds.
